So I watched a 71-part autobiography on Joel Hopkins' life and discovered the most insane stories, as told by the world's greatest video game collector. OBJECTIVELY, Joel had the largest video game collection in the world, but strangely enough, that's the LEAST interesting fact about his life. Join me as I share my favorite moments from "Story Mode" which is Last Gamer's entire life story in video form. Don't sleep on this one.
MAJOR SHOUT OUT TO LAST GAMER!!!
Here's a playlist of his Story Mode series to check out:

The only thing that this excellent video doesn't fully convey, and I say this to people who never watched the Last Gamer channel, is how massive, inconceivable, astonishing his game collection is. I mean, he's got Tetris for Mega Drive... there are four known copies in the world. No other collector can even dream to come close.

I have been fan of Joel Last Gamer almost since the start. I was in awe of his collection and have had few interaction with him as well via Facebook and messaging. He was really passionate but I think due to health issues and on going problems, he slowly sort of started drifting away from it all. He would not post much about videogames or anything in general, and sometimes felt he was doing it in a rush mode, which was really unlike him. I just wish that someone from his family or Jess who were frequent in his channel, would come and say that, 'Hey! Joel is doing fine and will be back in so and so date. As of right now, we have no update of him or his collection. Its his channel and its his collection, he is free to do whatever he likes, but its just sad & disappointing that if it ends this way, it feels like someone punched you in the gut. I really hope we get an update soon. Great video you made of him showcasing mainly everything he faced in his life journey. I hopes it continues where it left off from.

I am really surprised you did a video about this. Use to be a close friend of this guy and did him many favors. Even if Joel had no Insurance the fact is he did something you don't do. "Keep Machine plugged in during a storm!" or keeping them plugged in. When my machines are not in use I don't have them connected to the walls. A power Surge can also damage machines and this is why machines get destroyed. Again the reason for most this stuff dying is from people powering on the machines too much. Also Pseudo science in the end probably will kill him. I tried to help him. But I will keep the Passion of Love of Gaming and preserving these machines going on.

Anymore youtubers you dig worth covering like this? Because I’m all for it man. Joel seems like a cool dude, and this is coming from someone who doesn’t care for channels like his for the most part. But unlike most of his peers, Joel genuinely comes off as someone with integrity instead of just another shill with a big collection and ego. Hopefully Joel sticks around, because the way I see it, the community needs more people like him.

Too many people have died from doctors as well, so to each his own.
@ToploadedGaming
@ToploadedGaming 4 ай бұрын
@@xXHasek99 “died from doctors” I mean that’s called malpractice. Unless you mean a doctor failed to save someone from an ailment, in that case, that is just an example of them doing what was possible. But just because situations like that happen, does not at all mean some asshole off the street has knowledge on how to treat people, and I would bet in 100% of those instances, they are incapable of treatment. This isn’t some 50/50 argument. You don’t go to some holistic person for glasses or contacts, why, because at best, they won’t work, and at worst, will cut your eyes, etc. But no one is producing holistic vision options, because you can literally see through their bs in real time, where as with medicine, which is the same, ie medical science, you don’t see a definitive change for or against. So they can hide their lies. Sometimes people die, and that is no reason to trust some moron over the mountains of data that has been collected. I recently had a heart attack, you imagine a guru would have been able to save me and put in a stint? Would he even know to ask for what I’m allergic to? I think i’d be dead. To each their own, yea, to their own guaranteed death. Touchy subject, but I’m not gonna shy away from the reality. This hurts someone’s feelings, don’t care. I’d rather them be alive and mad, than dead and said nothing. Also, let it be known, I think there is a difference between doctors saying there is nothing we can do for you but make you comfortable, and then trying whatever you want, and avoiding actual treatment because of your beliefs. Huge difference. I understand the notion of not wanting to give up, but I would try to find another doctor that would be willing to try something risky, invasive, if all his peers are saying “nothing we can do”.

Joel is the man, been subbed to him for a couple years now and he was in an island all by himself but that's what made his content special. I enjoyed the many episodes he put out and it is a shame how he was treated by other KZbin collectors because none of them have as an impressive of a collection as Joel has/had. I recall a clip from one of John Hancock's live stream a while ago one of his viewers mentioning Joel and his impressive collection and Hancock scoffing and dismissing it as somehow unworthy because the guy is supposedly rich. Meanwhile Hancock is openly accepting game donations from his viewers to fill up his collection. Seems very unworthy to me. Anyway I digress. I'll miss Joel and his content he was the man and I hope he's doing well. If he sold his collection, whatever it's just games that can all be emulated on a Series S for the most part lol. At the end of the day family is most important and the whole KZbin thing seemed like it was putting too much pressure on him.

I'd never heard of this guy before. I hope he has some close friends and family that he was able to share this collection with, because it seems a bit tragic that he invested so much time, money and passion into his hobby, but never managed to win the approval of the youtube community. Collecting multiple entire console libraries just because you can seems symptomatic of something unfortunate to me. It's uncanny how many people in the community go from a 'collect everything' mentality to a 'sell everything I own' one. Seems like they don't have the ability to just buy things that interest them and keep the things they love.

I absolutely get him being so protective and cautious with his game collection. I had roommates and the like in the past, and I myself am a collector. Since I was a kid, I loved games. I would go to swap meets and flea markets and haggle for boxes of NES games in the 90s and early 2000s. As I got older I slowly collected more. I have had at least 3 REALLY valuable games stolen by old roomies, and now I feel a slight tingle in my spine when someone I don’t know goes near my game shelves. It’s like an involuntary reaction.

You sure know how to pick an oddly "obscure" thing/subject , do a deep dive and present your findings that help re-inform the mainstream audience who might have dismiss it on the get go without a second thought. Having said that, Last Gamer is not obscure but yeah he seems really bizzare .It reminds me of self made millionaire who flex their success video because he can . But somehow i couldnt put a finger to why I couldnt keep coming back to his video. Im guessing i keep telling myself " there's no way i can get that" and just made me depressed as i watch in awe over his massive collections.Especially them cool gaming rooms. There's a quote by Anthony Robbin: Success is doing what you want, when you want, where you want, with whom you want as much as you want. Joel actually represent that quote pretty much.A success in his own right who probably shouldn't bother with KZbin at all to be happy.But having amassed that sort of Legacy why wouldnt you?

Had no clue he was gutting his entire collection. I never really followed his channel but have always heard legendary tales of his ludicrous game room that looks like a mashup between an EB Games from the 90s, an old school arcade, and a fallout shelter. Seems like he bit off more than he could chew, over time. Life demands and pressures of being a husband and father probably caught up with him. I don't really think he's much of a douche..maybe a tinge of narcissism. Just a guy very passionate about his hobby..I mean, he's stranded in an Australian suburb with a wife and kids.
