So... The Kuma backstory... This is the cliff notes version: Kuma started off as a slave but then he escaped with his friends. One of his friends was his lover and they joined the revolutionary army. His lover got kidnapped and was forced to become a Celestial Dragon's wife, and then she had a child. They got thrown away, and she died minutes before Kuma found her and her child. The child had a desease that was damn near incurable, and when he found someone who could cure it, to pay for it, he agreed to be turned into a robot that followed government orders and lose all his memories and sense of self. So that clip that CJ showed was basically a dead man. Its far deeper than that, but to get into the nitty gritty and full context, you need to know the characters, events, and how everything weaves together and I'd be typing out 35% of the whole manga. I refuse.

And knoeing Oda, one or two chapters can change THE ENTIRE CONTEXT of what I said. Because originally we believed him and his clones (yes he was mass produced) could only be controlled by the government and his creator, but it turns out he was secretly made to have his daughter have absolute authority even above the highest ranking people of the world. This was a plot twist. My point? We're not done yet. We still have questions. It took us 15 years to learn ANY of this.

Some other things Doflamingo was also a human traficker, he sold a LOT of slaves. He also forced the people he turned into toys to be slaves. The Smile fruits dont force you to be happy, you can feel any emotion, but you are just unable to express anything but happiness. In the Wano arc, a little girl saw her father being executed and couldnt do anything but laugh. also at 44:55 , he meant he tried to make Rebecca kill Viola. Which is really fucked up since they're sisters.

So when he found Rebecca, she had no idea that was her dad right in front of her. The Hobi-Hobi Fruit wipes the memories of the families and friends of anybody who gets turned into a toy by Sugar.
