@@bobing1752 It's going to take a lot more than that to trump the magnus generation. Firouzja lost to magnus how many times in a row in the finals lately? How can one match not involving magnus cement anything regarding surpassing the previous generation? You are out of your mind for saying that.

@@Abhinav004kM Toronto candidates was a mess. FIDE technical committee introduced arbitrary rules and regulations ( in addition to what were in contract and agreed upon) on the eve of opening day. AF protested however other players agreed He appealed and then reappeared but was denied. And then arbitrator, mid game, asked him to walk slowly in the rest area ( yes not in the playing area) and AF complained against arbitrator but that complaint was also denied. He was no in mood to play the chess from opening ceremony day to the last day. Plus FIDE's mistreatment of his father was unnecessary. And they cancelled Elo of one of his tournaments. So both AF and FIDE had a mutual dislike for each other. FIDE is ruled by same incompetent people. President can be changed after a decade but underlying incompetent people remain the same. Anyway he is winning GrandChessTour, many online tournaments and in person chess960 so he is earning lot of respect and money already.

Hmm, really nice games, still feel that rapid is a bit shallow. MVLs knight sacrifice was findable in a slower game, and very beautiful. Honestly it's even simpler he was not focused on chess after reaching 2800, now he has said he is back fully focused on chess and paused the fashion phase and the results have been very good, at candidates he didn't focus early enough just like trying to cram for a test at last minute so it's no surprise

@@DanRaj-o8y Candidates is the most demanding chess tournament and experience in every aspect of it (mentally, technically, strategically and even physically) plays a big role. Arguably harder than the world championship itself (as said by Fabi). Not as simple is having "ability to handle pressure". Much more than that...

I'm not sure that Alieriza is the best out of the next generation. But I'm beginning to be convinced that he is currently the best player in the world to defend a World Chess Championship. Outside of Magnus, Hikaru, and Fabi. In other words, if he BECOMES the WCC, then he'll likely be able to hold on to the title. I literally have my doubts about every other player on the planet doing that outside of the 3 mentioned above.

I love Alireza very much. But what I see here, is five lost positions, that he manage to win because of time scramble of the opponent. For me nothing has changed, if he continues to play like that, he will never be able to win the candidates. We will win the candidates if he learn how to make a draw, when he has a small disadvantage.
