Rhaenys, Ser Harold, Lyonel, Cole and people like Lady Redwyne in EP3 loved Viserys but never had the same feelings towards Daemon but they're all not stupid enough to challenge him. Daemon could be loved by the people if he wanted to, it seems to me that he understands very well how to be political. But I don't think he cared enough to sit the throne, that's why he behave that way. He said the court bored him.

Making Otto Hightower the hand was Targareyans' biggest mistake, he's much more scary than Tywin because unlike Tywin he's not so openly ruthless, Otto is not known for being callous and cruel but that's the thing he'll do whatever it takes to make his grandson the king, Tywin is straight up with his kids that they must further the Lannister line whatever the cost, Otto truly is a psychopath, he hides his intentions rather well until he carries them out.

I read a lot of comments saying that Daemon should have been the Hand etc. etc., Just remember that if that were the case and the Dance of the Dragons didn't happen then the magic wouldn't have vanished from westeros (magic exists as long as dragons do, and the night king is a magical byproduct), the night king would have come sooner, the world would have been conquered by the dead, and Aegon's dream (and ASOIAF) would have never happened. Still, there's no doubt Daemon would have been a better hand.

I feel bad for Daemon. It's crazy to me that Sara Hess, writer, says Daemon is a bad brother. If that's the case then Viserys is also a bad brother. Maybe if Viserys kept Daemon closer to him instead of Otto the snake he wouldn't be so rebellious. He said some really horrible things to Daemon and all Daemon did was annoy his brother like a little child. When you consider that incest is the norm with Targs him getting mad over him wanting to marry Rhaenyra is ridiculous. He accused him of wanting the throne, but he never wanted it. All he wanted was to be by his side. And Viserys always pushed him away. Maybe if he really had opened his arms to Daemon and helped him he wouldn't have felt the need to kill his wife he never wanted. Maybe if he listened to him regarding Otto the civil war would have never started. We never see Daemon say ''the heir for a day'' either and Viserys immediately takes Otto's side blindly and blasts Daemon for something he probably didn't say or meant that way. We saw Daemon sorrow the loss of his child at the funeral. A lot of people love Viserys but I don't think he was a good king or even a good father, brother, husband. Paddy was outstanding but Viserys' faults gets overlooked while Daemons are enhanced.
