Yeah and he wasn't alone. When that game came out I remember being creeped out by how many members of the Telltale Community forums, grown men, would refer to Clementine as "Queen Clem" and talk about serving and protecting her. They even had a name for themselves that was just as cringeworthy as the queen stuff, if not more so, but I can't remember it. Just checked and you can still find many of those posts if you search "Queen Clem" + "Telltale," and even reddit has been infected by those people.

I would argue that a little more than half of the users are decent people just observing horrible things out of curiosity; many of us came across gore at a very young age and are simply more desensitized to it than the average human. Often times we find solace and solidarity in each other and come to appreciate the fragility of life. I've met some of the kindest people in gore communities. Personally I casually consume this type of content, but I never seek to disrespect the poor unfortunate souls featured on these subreddits/websites. But, of course, there's still many assholes lurking there who make tasteless jokes and don't take it seriously. The watchpeopledie website is a lot less moderated than Reddit, so you'll find marginally more trolls there. TLDR there's two types of gore viewers: those who are simply morbidly curious and those who think it's funny and brag about watching it to seem edgy.

[Spoiler for anyone who needs a warning for a several-year-old game.] At the end of the first game, you have the decision to walk away from Lee or shoot him before he turns undead. While people will have varying opinions on the decision, the murderer in the video likely chose to spare Lee because he didn't want people to get killed in front of Clementine. Yet he callously killed his own family in the name of Clementine.

You have to remember, this is a father who just lost 2 of his other children and his wife (or exwife) in a brutal fashion from someone nobody in the family expected. He was likely still processing everything and could have been in denial about the whole incident. Regardless of that, some parents do (regrettably) still love their children and insist they're innocent even when provided with concrete evidence to the contrary. The important thing is the dangerous criminal that is his son will be locked up for a very long time and poses no further threat to the public. Let the father grieve.
