I think it’s because The Lord wants us to be able to learn from them so that we might maybe have the will to avoid the same mistakes in the future. It why Catholism offers the sacrament of Reconciliation.

We werent "designed" to make bad choices. We were created in God's image. Since God has free will, so do we. Without our free will, we would merely be God's puppets.

It is confusing to say the least that sometimes our natural God given human desires cannot be acted on because those same God given human desires we are told are wrong, should we act on them under certain circumstances. So I am coming to the opinion that we are given a choice to abide by Gods laws even though they may conflict with our human desires as created. Somehow and hopefully this earns us a special place in Gods eyes when we deny ourselves our human inclinations for Gods purposes.
