Yeah. He was making music related “content” for 20 years before PRMBA. I think his idea for the channel was to pivot into a more niche music marketing space, but he got caught up chasing views and what did well for him was making videos out of Wikipedia pages. Even before PRMBA you could tell he had a fair amount of contempt/disdain for certain elements of the music community, but this dude was also writing 700 word articles about assfactor 4, you don’t do that if you “don’t care about music”. I think as his channel got further away from what he initially wanted it to be, the contempt for those elements he didn’t like grew and he stopped nurturing his passion for music altogether. I enjoyed his high production value coverage of bands from genres that are often overlooked by snooty critics, but something didn't feel right regarding his "personal taste" takes that found their way into every video. I just put it down to classic engagement bait, which it almost certainly was, but I always had this feeling of "did you actually even listen to that album/band?". Either that or he's a phenomenal actor cause he did genuinely seem passionate about some of the stuff he covered, especially earlier on in his career (stuff like 2010s scenecore, hardcore and metalcore in general.) Maybe he's more referring to the stuff he talked about later that deviated from these genres. Cause I agree it's so unlikely he'd start his channel on a topic he hates.

Finn was always a "money"-guy. I stopped watching his videos when he kept going on about respecting bands that "made it big" and "got deals with major labels". I mean I don't hate bands that do these things, but i found it weird how Finn kept putting an emphasis on these things. Like... he respected bands mostly because of their commercial success and their music and their artistic vision and integrity was only secondary (if even that). ...I noticed these things years ago... the current development fits these observations. I mean if he never really cared about the music itself that would explain his focus on other aspects like a band's financial success. Edit: Finn was (for me) always an antithesis to the DIY-mentality of punk rock which I value very highly. That's why I didn't enjoy his content.

The people who grew up passionate about these genres of music are very nostalgic and like to rehash what they consider the glory days. I read his zine in the late 90's, I found it at a local record store because he had interviewed a local band from my city. 20+ years later I found his channel on youtube and realized it was the same guy! I always liked his videos because he came in the same scene as me at the same time (i.e. people born after 1980 and got into punk and hardcore). But he started to cover things that were less interesting to me. Once I asked him on Facebook why he discontinued a series of videos - responded that he liked doing them but they didn't get enough views. I wondered, why not just do things you love and get less views? Him saying he doesn't like music seems like he's just pissed and burned out. Its a bummer. I hope he finds peace.

Yeah, I never understood why he considered every video had to be successful. I think it's okay to flop sometimes, as a content creator. Yeah, that’s the vibe I get. He genuinely liked music and content creation, but the algorithm and audience wanted basic Wikipedia tier content so he catered to that because he has mouths to feed at the end of the day. That's exactly what I wanted to comment, it's that the audience that he decided to cater his content to eventually made him not care about music and just view it as a vehicle to monetization. Because he's marketing and history approach to his earlier work was really cool, honestly I have not looked up about music and artists the same way again, and appreciated those artists that became successful that I love more, it's a really sad fall from grace. Also Idk how you can make a Blair White interview and talk to her about politics when he also interviewed Connie Sgarbossa from SeeYouSpaceCowboy, every single political move lately as been a spit in the face on his more progressive content like his video about Racism in Metal and the calling out misogyny in Deathcore and Slam.

People who are addicted to money are coping with something in their lives they are unhappy or insecure about. Nobody's purpose in life is to collect cats and when someone spends all their time collecting more and more cats we rightly point out it's a problem. Unfortunately money buys you power in our society so people who desperately wish they had more power handwave this specific addiction that is particularly destructive to society and the person's personality.

In my opinion, Finn definitely cared about music - he stopped caring because he got jaded and burnt out, and in order to protect (or maybe purposely destroy?) his fragile ego/identity, he's fronting like he never cared in the interview. A few months ago, he uploaded a video (the title escapes me, but you can look it up) where he plainly admits to being completely creatively bankrupt & out of ideas, and is more or less asking his audience for their advice on where he should take things, which frankly, is an embarrassing & vulnerable position to be in for a channel of his stature. It's very evident in that video that he is extraordinarily disillusioned & unhappy with how his KZbin / content creation career panned out. I also remember him talking somewhere about being completely fed up with the negative/disrespectful comments, so that definitely added fuel to the fire. So keeping all of these details in mind, this interview he did where he purposely behaves standoffish & rude is - in my opinion - done on purpose as a form of masochistic self sabotage but also as an F you to his fanbase but also detractors, who he has just naturally grown to hate, because he ended up more or less failing at content creation. It's very clear to me that he is just extremely disappointed in himself, spiteful, and upset with how things have turned out with his KZbin career. Nothing in this interview he participated in, is genuine in my opinion. Like I said, it's all a big, calculated F you to seemingly anyone who's ever watched him. He hates KZbin, and I suppose by extension, hates all of his former viewers. I liked (some) of Finn's content, and like Anthony said, the guy was consistent and delivered decent content regularly (apart from cringey politics but in fairness to him, there are far worse & more aggravating political commentators on this site). Still, I don't know why Finn wants to completely destroy/tarnish his legacy. I guess his KZbin career really just made him that nihilistic and bitter.
