The story is about a meeting between a young successful guy and a seemingly ordinary vagrant who claims to be none other than Agasfer - a legendary character who, according to legend, is doomed to wander the earth from century to century until the Second Coming of Christ. Unexpectedly, the vagrant turns out to be quite an interesting interlocutor, and the guy decides to find a weak spot in his seemingly unbelievable story. But it turns out that to do this is not easy at all.

there actually is a rumour (not in the Bible) that a man (Jew) named Cartopholes was cursed by Jesus on his procession to Calvary. That Jesus stopped to rest and Cartopholes basically told him to stop being lazy and move on, so Jesus said "I'll go, but you must stay until I return" - I always thought that would make a great movie - especially if he changed his name to the Count of St.Germain...

Cartopholes is the same character as this Ahasuerus in this movie. He has many names. The general term is “Wandering Jew”.
@films_123

I believe he told Jesus he could not rest at his house as he passed through to Calvary with the cross. He instead told Jesus, callously, that Jesus could rest at the house on his way back. Of course realising then crucifed men do not come back. So Jesus, told him to wait for his return. In other words the second coming. So, hence the "Wandering Jew" who is waiting for Jesus to return.

This is a movie that made me think. I love having conversations with homeless people. The best stories. He cursed himself by saying when you get back you can lean on my house to rest. You are attempting to draw blood from a stone. Further, the idea of God which can be succinctly expressed as the creator of the universe which exists in an unknown state apart from that universe is an unfalsifyable idea. This reminds me of the Eternal Mercenary stories "Casca" From Wikipedia: "Casca is a series of historical fantasy novels created by author Barry Sadler in 1979. The stories revolve around the exploits of Casca Rufio Longinus, the Roman legionary who drove the Holy Lance into the side of Jesus Christ on Golgotha (the blood and water ran down the spear and made contact with him). As a result of this action, Casca is cursed with immortality, and he is to wander the Earth aimlessly, always as a soldier, until the Second Coming. The character is loosely based on the Longinus legend of Christianity. "

*Just my thoughts*... I have a feeling that "this" (making movies about history), may confuse people 1000 years from now, about actual history "what actually happened". That may also explain why we can't find any of these holy artifacts of infatuation from the public. Because some of it is metaphorical, and anything related to science back then was looked at like magic or supernatural, it would have been destroyed if found. If Jesus did live, he was a man like me and you, but he cared soo much about people that even as he was pinned to a big wooden cross, he forgave the world for it's sins. He must have also seen what I see in the world, that everyone changes in time, that some learn from their mistakes before it's too late. "God punishes you when you die from your own mistakes." Sinning is bad because (sin) is any action that can hurt you or someone's else, physically and/or mentally. Not everyone is your enemy, matter fact your enemy is sometimes your friend. The 10 commandments are just life advice that you should atleast think about. God is the manifestation of all the good in the world, not a man watching you over your shoulder. Jesus died on a cross because he cared. That is Godly! I'm not religious but I can admit he was a good guy. I hope that I'm half the man he was, when I die.

For example, one can interpret as the other guy being his twin, and as for the other guy looking in the mirror could have been a trick of the mind after hearing the story. The man from Earth 2007 film did it better because at the end the reveal was not vague and not unambiguous unlike this one.

God made us for fellowship , after all we are the only creation he said let us make man in our own image . He wants relationships just like we want it . Difference is he's that friend we're always looking for . It's a great day when you realize this . My life is worth living now I know him .

not related: @2:04 yes. it is beautiful to give back to the Earth the energy I used in life, at the end, by being eaten by worms. I spent my life on this ground, loved life and used the resources to be alive. Now it's time to give back to the ground, to other life forms, so that the cycle continues, either we like it or not. so shallow to think that we're more special than worms. anyway...

what u mean dont believe in a higher power, do u want me to fight u, creation exist, every discovery of science has a glass wall, why do people need energy? we just do. why is energy conserved? it just is. why does entropy exist? it just is, why do magnetic fields exist when you move a charge? it just is.....these are glasswalls and we cant seem to ask further why but they are there....the modern interpretation of a god is explain emergence without further cause and effect, because its too hard....its so hard....is mathematics invented or discovered? it was influenced by observing nature, and why it exists in nature? it just is......all these are emergences that are too sophisticated and complex to be the cause of some random thing.....do u know that some city roads are modeled by how bacteria/fungi develops? this is because they find the most least resistant path to grow their limbs using energy efficiently....even something random and miniscule has great value if we really peer into it....god isnt meant to explain ethical values, it was inspired by creation, people added extra putting moral values cause it benefitted them and gave them a right to the table with god....

Being unreligious appears to be, IMHO, a result of simplified/reductive scientific conformity, or incomplete apperception of tragedy in the world. The word science comes from the latin for knowledge. Before knowledge/science is reductive, it seeks into the unknown.

I am religious but I do not expect people to be religious. Just be open to the possibility that someone made us and then try and ask. One day I questioned a lot of things and cried as I touched a dead tree in late August and prayed over it well leave began to grow. I still touch and pray over that tree. Just be open to a possibility. I questioned everything that I do out of tradition. I researched and tested everything. My faith is strong and now I do not celebrate any holidays not even my birthday. Because in my opinion birthdays only serves my ego. So I only pray for gratitude. Takes all the pressure off. Much Love.

There's a also a story of a man who travelled from an island near Libya who was cursed around Jesus's time to live more than a millinium. He died in 1300. The Catholic is hiding everything. Apparently that man was Igbo from Nigeria. He had gone to Palestine to trade his jewelry for some spices gotten from India. Strange

I've often thought of what happened to "those standing among you now, that shall not die until they see me coming in the clouds" one would think they would know each other. I also wondered when someone would began to claim to be of those people. Hummm interesting story but he would have the original DNA of the original Jews not the converts that came later. This is how religious stories get started. Man would rather create a lie then seek the truth.

Yes, the pinnacle of my existence is to become worm food, well - I want to be cremated but the point stands - star dust is even less consequential than worm food. When I die, my body will feed life and I will have achieved some type of immortality. One that doesn't involve any leaps of faith.

"gonna become worm food? Is that the ultimate fate of his life?" Uhhhh, yes. That is the ultimate fate of ALL life. Whether there is an afterlife or not is irrelevant and endlessly selfish; death returns to the planet, which returns as life to everything else. Death isn't the end, it's just the end of one Ego.
