The ball was not dead. Carey threw the ball immediately he received it. It was live in play. BTW they weren't hard done but they were beaten. This bloke is correct and all the tossers complaining are just reiterating the Whinging Pom stereotype. Why try and use a "Mankad" situation as a excuse to badmouth the Aussies for just playing the game of cricket. England want to play Bazball and we want to play cricket. Grow up.

How a serious cricketer can wander like a brown cow around the middle of Lords defies belief. Staying in your crease is not one of those ‘one percenters’ that make the difference in elite sport, it’s a ticket to entry in Under 12’s.

Why should Carey warn Bairstow? Should Carey also give him a written list of what else Bairstow should not do while he bats? Bairstow is a wicket keeper! He gets paid professionally to play & to be the wicket keeper! He, of all people, should know better to guard his own crease/wicket when he bats! Especially when he tried the same thing days earlier to Warner & Marnus! Except Bairstow missed the stumps! It doesn't matter if there is a perceived advantage or not! Stay on your crease until the ball IS dead & umpire has called "over". He walked off 3 or 4 times! Just because you tap the crease with your foot doesn't mean the ball is dead either. Bairstow did not even have an awareness of where the ball was! Was it up to Carey to say " Hi ho, here is the ball, I've got it & Im going to throw it at your stumps now Bairstow" And what about Stokes at the other end? is it not the captains role as a leader to remind his team mate to have awareness of the ball & to stay on his own crease until safe?

england used this as a smokescreen, since they failed to win the ashes at home with their new brand of cricket. this makes sense as JB waited months later until the odi WC last yr in oct-nov, when he moaned about it. And it coincided with England failing miserably to defend their odi WC title. JB is a hypocrite, and if he makes it out to the 2025 ashes here, the crowds will really give him a hard time 🤣

It’s unfortunate he doesn’t have more batsmen around him to do the same. So according to Harmison he's fine with the non striker leaving his increase inadvertently but not the striker. While the latter actually gives an advantage and the former is just the striker assuming the ball is dead earlier than it is. How can you even equate it to a stumping, the batsman was in his crease and was in complete control before he left it. Australia has just made use of the vaguery of a rule in their desperation to win. Cricket is a unique sport it's played over 5 days and some things have to be assumed. Now we are going have a rule to decide when the ball is dead so that batsmen can leave their crease.
@kymbo72
@kymbo72 10 ай бұрын
there is ALREADY rules to decide when the ball is dead. England team just didn't know them (and apparently still don't). I'll help you out, it's 20.1. There is no "vaguery of a rule" - it's pretty clear actually. Most of the English past players and commentators seem to know the rule, it's just the current team who need to brush up on their knowledge before playing their "Spirit of Cricket" card. As Harmison indicated, that card only comes out when a side thinks something didn't go their way and wants a bit of a sook. Aussies had to just accept the ruling on the Starc catch where it hit the ground the other day, even though they didn't agree and it would have been a huge wicket - but they didn't start whinging and whining about Spirit of Cricket etc.

I'm an England supporter, but Bairstow's personality keeps getting in the way of his cricket. He's a strange guy.

He wouldn't be the first Pommie or Australian to stuff up after a skinful. What does that have to do with anything? Maybe you should get down off your high horse and learn to spell.

English are such babies, if it was the other way around they would be saying how intelligent the play was 😂I played high level of cricket and we was taught from young put your bat in the crease.

He did, he thought ball was dead and walked off prematurely, it’s silly from Bairstow but it’s defo not smart or clever play by Oz.

@@Shandyboy8612 but it is smart play, because Aussies knew the rule, and Bairstow was clueless about it (even though he is a wicket keeper lol). The rule is that the ball is not deemed to be dead until BOTH batting and fielding side think it's dead. So just because HE thinks it's dead does NOT make it dead.

@@kymbo72 it’s bending the rules and it’s poor behaviour. I agree Bairstow silly, when I first saw it I was thinking why did he walk off so soon, but I think it’s a very harsh one to get out to. If that’s how the Ozzies want to play from here on out that’s what we will have to do going forward.

@@kymbo72 I think it’s pretty obvious the player was not taking a run and therefore it was a sly one. If he is standing out of his crease to begin with or at the time the keeper takes the ball there is no complaints but he was in his crease then walked off before the ball was officially called dead.

Great comment Steve. As an Australian your talent still hurts (Punter agrees) but this comment is spot.
