As someone who is not asexual and is also in a happy relationship, I co-sign the idea that you're not ready for one if all you see in a potential partner is someone to sleep with. There are couplings that are just for sex and that's fine if both parties know that going in and have negotiated that, but an actual, longer term relationship needs to be built on something more. Shocking as it sounds, you actually have to like someone in order to hang out with them long-term.

I have an online friend who had to deal with the whole faking the death thing 20yrs or so ago. She had an online "girlfriend" in an role play group who after awhile "died" and her "brother" come in to tell her and conveniently knew everything that they had talked about. the girlfriend had never talked on voice chat, only shared one picture, and had always tripped my weirdo alarm but i knew my friend also had no plans of making it more than an online RP thing so it didnt *really* matter. In the end, I figure he was a pretend girl, and even though they were never going to have a RL relationship he wanted more so he faked his death to come back as himself and try to aim for something more. We make unhinged jokes about words and stories we make up. When I leave for work I make sure to have a little thing I say "Have a good night, stay safe, have fun, I love you forever" and the two of us almost in unison say "Butts!" and get a giggle out of it. We joke, we laugh, we cry, we face hardships, we cuddle and kiss (a lot that's honestly more than enough for us really.), and we share memes. I'm not sure where I was going with this, but I just wanted to say that what you said right there? That's the truth. It's like 'Oh sure, adult fun times is great and all, though a lot of work, but you know what's even better? Sharing a home made meal with your life partner while the two of you giggle over the stupidest of memes and congratulate each other on your farts and doing a simple chore that you've been putting off." IIRC butterflies can taste with their feet, so I think the character being able to taste with his hands could be cool, BUT I cannot taste what numbers are on a card by licking it, so why would his ability to taste with his hands at all help him know what is on a card?
@tarotsushima33322 ай бұрын
Like that was sth I was hoping the DM would have called bs on. How the hell would knowing a type of ink let you know what number and symbols were on it, unless he could taste shapes as well. A minor thing but a bs ability that should have been nipped in the bud and the OP proceeded to show how he would have acted if he tried it again.
@Amayawolf_01Ай бұрын
Presumably the intent was that they were feeling the shape the ink made on the card (number, symbol, etc) but even then the ink would've been so thin you would not feasibly be able to tell what is on a card purely by licking it. The wording was weird though, like they phrased it in a way that sounded like each ink had a different flavor. Pretty sure they'd all taste more or less the same regardless, not "Ah yes this one tastes like strawberry jam, so clearly it's red ink"

As I was listening to that last story I figured something was up the moment the players got mad at OP because the DM was doing more story stuff involving them. Like 1. They already took a backseat most of the campaign as a literal sheep. 2. I've had DMs get overzealous about a specific PC's backstory and we never got mad at the player for that since it was the DM doing it and a simple convo with the DM always reset their expectations. So I was listening this and thinking "I think there has to me more to this story that OP didn't know about" and then it all clicked once the truth came out. They were angry that the DM effectively brought in a stranger and gave them special treatment just to get in OP's pants and, when the plan failed, it was like they put up with all of it for nothing.

Imagine being forced to read the DMs Book with his main character *Night* lol.
@AvatAR424202 ай бұрын
As for the first story, the ability to taste ink to cheat at cards might seem like a small thing, but such a thing not being mentioned at all on the character sheet is a problem. Tt shows that the player in willing to overstep and give themselves abilities that the DM or the rules of the game has not given them. What's next, spontaneously developing sticky slime so they can spider climb at will? Dividing when struck by slashing damage? The DM is trying to reign this in before it just become free form and character sheets don't matter. The victim complex and unwillingness to understand real DM concerns means that the OP is definitely in the wrong and a potential compromise can't be reached.

What I want to know is how they are tasting the face down sides of the cards. There are characters out there in fiction who can read by touch (the Marvel hero Daredevil, for example), but they still can only read the side of a page they are actually touching.

I am aromantic and the 'relationships' in these stories just hurt me on a weird level. I just...I don't understand this. Just because there's a girl at the table doesn't mean she's there for a relationship or sex or whatever. If you hit it off sure, whatever, who cares. That's a big if though. Maybe I just come from a lot of mixed gender groups, but I've never really thought about it in that way. Heck, one of my tables right now is mostly women and I'm the minority. Granted, every time I'm in a situation where there are women at the table, I know I'm an idiot. I always say "Hey, if I say something that makes you uncomfortable, just let me know. I tend to not know when to shut up and I make jokes that could skirt that line I think." I guess to my credit, I tend to make the tables laugh, regardless of who they are, and I guess I'm doing alright because I've never been approached to say "Hey, tone it down." If I can turn down my very flirty and sexual nature for a few hours to just have a good time rolling nat 1s, pretty sure it's not impossible for everyone else to either. Or, hell, just make your character be flirty in a not...weird...way. No matter what kind of relationship you have with someone (Platonic, Romantic, Sexual, whatever) it's just good to have your boundaries defined. ...I rambled. I think I lost my point.

4:45 this part about something small being treated as over powered is reminding me of the horrid trio. a group of 3 horrible players who would team up to gaslight me and belittle me. also do this exact same thing, where they blow up at me for something small. calling it over powered. for example. imagine a spell that locks me in place. protects me with ice (temp hp) and as a action, i can release a 5 ft radius ice blast (centered on me) that does a single d4 of damage. (no modifier to the damage mind you) and they all yelled at me, saying its over powered (further context. it was a fairy tail campaign. about everyone has ranged spell attacks) and for further context. one of the players could turn into a literal demon. and the other had sand that has a insta kill effect (also a gourd with infinite sand). he also had a book that gives his character meta knowledge and the knowledge of all his other characters from other campaigns. but for some reason. my d4 melee ranged ice blast that immobilizes me. is too over powered.

I had a "friend" of multiple years who came onto me a little too strong during one of our video game sessions when it was just him and I in the voice call, and he was pissed when I shot him down. I tried to give him the benefit of the doubt, I gave him a couple of weeks to go back to not being weird, but.. He just got worse. I eventually just cut and run from the group entirely. At the time, we were lightly discussing BG3 as our next game, or even having him DM DnD. Which, thankfully, never happened. I may never have picked up the game again if it did. Moral of the story, if your brain goes "Huh, I think this person is self agrandizing and might need professional help", listen.

Just don't try to add _more_ for your PC. I've seen it often enough that I have a blanket rule of not approving homebrew species unless they're close to a reflavoring of an existing one _and_ the player and I are both clear the they won't be adding any ability mechanics later no matter how much it feels like it should be available based on their concept for their character.)
