have been a contractor for 40 years and i am quite impressed with your attention to detail. There are many easier ways to do things but regardless you have done well,. Also your comments are tasteful and honest ,Thankyou. I wish i was close enough to resaw your first offcuts. I have an LT40 hydraulic. But i dont have access to such nice fir here in Alberta at Rocky Mountain House. Well done .You folks are very good workers and have a ever increasingly rare work ethic. Enjoy your home.....

What I learned in the Army is Dig a hole deeper than the generator is high surround the hole with sandbags put a slanted roof over it (to keep it from flooding)with the lowest part of the roof towards the living/working area. place generator of course in the hole and also put the hole as far as possible from living working area.....Also, a good idea is to put the hole as far up the hill as you can.that way with the slant of the roof away from and it being higher than ground zero(working area) you will hardly hear it.

Jesse was right that there will be people who will accuse him of not working hard no matter how hard he actually works. There is a sociological reason for this, for better or worse. Men need to be aware of it in order to avoid being overworked and injured.

Hey. Put your laser level meter in a container submerged in rice. The dry rice will suck all the moisture from the circuitry. I’ve even done this for laptops and it works. The thing to remember with electronics is that they can take a shower but they can not take a bath. Another words. They can handle getting wet as long as they don’t take a bath in the water. The rice will such all the water out. It does take 2 or more days depending on how wet it was. Just make sure it’s in a compleatly sealed container fully submerged in the rice. Worked every time.

If you lean plywood pieces (4x4) against the frame of the generator, like a tent, it will trap the sound down and be much quieter in the area.

just a suggestion to help with that planer cable, fasten a line of string to ceiling joist tie your electric cable about 6/8 foot above your working height and cable will be kept out of the way and just follow you up and down as you plane.

Guys - a tip from my Burning Man experience: Build a flimsy plywood box around the generator - the higher the walls the better - it will cut the noise down by at least 10dB, and direct the rest upwards instead of outwards..
@robertborgman7 жыл бұрын
Use the backhoe to dig a hole to put the generator in, Will reduce the noise alot. Could place it more out of the way too.
@arthurott45617 жыл бұрын
You'd think that after getting her shirt caught up in the planer she'd pull that hair back and pin it up. It's always dangling on or around the planer. That's a major accident waiting to happen.

We have a similar make of generator, it is noisy as well. Ours appears to have a flange on the exhaust that might accept an additional muffler. If the noise of your generator is an issue, you might look into adding a muffler.

I know it's been said before, but it bears repeating... You two work so well together and what you are accomplishing is simply amazing. People who are pitting the amount of work one of you is doing over the other don't see the whole picture..... Every bit of the work is tough, sure Jesse, you are sitting in the seat of a backhoe, but you have to have a certain amount of skill and precision to pick up the logs, place them on the sawmill, then actually doing the measuring and sawing.... I enjoy watching your videos of the two of you and what you are working toward.... Keep it up.. I will say I cringed in this one when Alyssa's hair was hanging down onto the planer, but knowing you are far beyond that now is reassuring.... Be safe and God Bless!

I know that this doesn’t seem relevant to this blog but I’ve followed you since the 1st video and have noticed that you both look much more toned as the journey has progressed. I’ve also noted that you often mention being tired after a long days work. How would you describe the change in your physique, generally, based on your building experience? Have you had many injuries, both small and large, has your physique improved faster or slower than you expected, have you had any problems with such a physically and mentally demanding routine, has your relationship strengthened, etc? How have your skills and self-confidence been affected? I think this would make for a very interesting video blog. Cheers from Western Australia, Ian

Yes, Blunstones are Australian. Put some peach oil on the leather to soften it and you won’t get heel blisters. Get arched insoles for them. They can cause back pain for some people. Also If they get muddy and you let the mud harden it dries out the leather, so keep them clean and they’ll last you forever 👍 ‘Blunnys’ as we aussies call them are a staple footware for all workers. We love them!

My Contractor/Architect Brother and I built a Custom House in Bozeman from the ground-up utilizing locally constructed SIP Panels for an Architecture Professor at MSU. Erection of the Panels happened in the middle of winter...so, it can be done. Insulated Coveralls and a pair of Packs for your feet from a local Carharts supplier is a must for outdoor winter working up in that country. We didn't work below Zero though...too unproductive. Best advice I can give...purchase one or two Large Capacity Battery Operated Caulking Guns as there is a TON of Gluing! Keep the Glue where it's warm...flows better. We used Dewalt Guns and they worked flawlessly. Did all the Electrical myself (I am an Electrical Contractor)...but, I know you can too. Purchase a Roto-Zip Tool for the Electrical...you won't regret it. Be glad to help if you get stuck. ps: My other Brother is a well respected Contractor/Builder in Eureka ;)
