It is probably a good thing you weren't able to get these "firewood" videos out until after the push was over. I have such an overwhelming urge to jump in the truck, drive 2500 miles and stack firewood so you can get on with more important things. Funny how blessings work. I love being allowed to peek at your lives and this amazing project.

She's a keeper!!! I would recommend Johnson's Paste Wax for the planar table/bed. It will help tremendously with the sap build-up issues and it will help the planar glide across the beams smoothly. I know the timber frame is done, but this will help for future projects as well. I use on my table saw table and it helps reduce friction and protects turntable too.

You two are seriously in beast mode. Alissa is chainsawing, loading tons of wood, driving the backhoe. Jessie has the sawmill down pat. You two are rocking it. Love the humor at the end. I have also realized that an excellent tool makes all the difference, I purchased the same laser unit. I'm stocking up on tools to build our home and you two have giving me so much good advice and ideas it's crazy.

Hey guys! Great videos! We chatted recently on you FB page about the log lifting tongs. I got two of them and use the loader bucket with chains. I see you had some trouble getting the claw to dig into the log. I find that out of the box the tips of the claw are quite blunt. I used a grinder and made mine sharper. Now it digs into the logs so much easier. Just thought I would share my experience in the hopes it might help you out. I'll probably do a video on my setup very soon. See you on the next one!!!

Lol on the teeter tooter. 2 suggestions for you. 1 slow cooker meals. you throw some stuff in there in the morning and set it to low and 6 to 8 hours later you have awesome and cheap food. You won't regret it. Second you would really save time and energy if you lifted the timbers with 2 slings. No messing around on the balance and then all Alyssa has to do is keep the swing in control. Great vids, love the progress and I know why but it would be better if we weren't so far behind. Keep up the good work. Say hi to bugaboo.

Hey, watching your channel for months, loving it! Great what you´re doing, and even greater to share this journey with us youtube folks. Only one thing i´m scared of is how you use the shackles when moving your beams with the backhoe. Shackels have a direction of taking forces, if you ignore that, it can snap. Every time I watch you, i´m scared that every second the beam can drop. :) When you put in a load to a shackle you have to do this from the bolt to the opposite round side, then they can carry the load written on them. Please take care and go on!! Greetings from south Germany, Stuttgart!

My comment is absolutely not meant to be sexist in any way. But based on what you two were doing before this project. Which was not manual labor, and what you are both doing now, Jesse you must be very proud of your wife. Alyssa is a petite young lady. No previous experience. And she is out there moving tons of wood, working chainsaws, running the back hoe. And busting her butt harder than some guys that I know! Both of you are hard workers, pushing your limits, expanding your boundaries, and doing things you probably never thought possible! Awesome work by both of you! Glad we get to share even if only in very small snap shots of it on video! :)

Alyssa needs her own small tractor for firewood. Or a 4-wheeler. She could use that to bundle the scrap and two it down to where the woodpile is. It would save her cutting and throwing it in the wheelbarrow or the backhoe bucket and pushing it over to the woodpile. Just a thought to save her back from all the bending over. The backhoe would be overkill to difficult to maneuver into that tight area to drag the waste down to the woodpile. Plus it would allow her to process the firewood away from the sawmill. Keep up the great work.

I still might go live off the grid once my kids move out, I have everything to do it like solar and I even built a nice wood gasifier. have they done any testing/diagnosis of the charging system on that backhoe? I don't remember if I've seen that or not... A diesel like that is probably perfectly happy without a functioning alternator, but if the battery isn't getting charged the "new" battery will not live long, and soon you'll need to be jumping it every day, and etc.

Many times when you cut off (rip) wood from a premilled kiln dried etc piece, it will warp as it is being cut. I'm sure that this happens with these sizes of wood also. Your issues may not all be the sawmill. You are doing great. Carry on.

If I could offer something regarding the black spots on your joists under the tarp: While they may be iron shavings here in the NW we have 52 different species of mold and spores that create a similar blackening of the surface and they are in the wood naturally. I am an Architect and a General Contractor and over the 40 years of building with timbers have dealt with this issue on almost every project. The most effective solution once and if you need to plane the surface is to treat the wood with Oxalic acid is rubbed onto completed marble sculptures to seal the surface and introduce a shine. Oxalic acid is also used to clean iron and manganese deposits from quartz crystals. Oxalic acid is used as a bleach for wood, removing black stains caused by dissolved iron that binds to the wood during water penetration.
