@@radaction5743 Urban Meyer one of the most decorated coaches in college history was so awful that he lost the locker room in less than a season. The media had nothing to do with the fact that it took several season for the Browns locker to turn on Jackson. What you are hinting at but not saying is that Jackson was hired and kept because he was black. Jackson turned the raiders 31 ranked offense to a top ten offense with with Jason Campbell and Mcfadden and Heyword Bey all considered busts. Then the Raiders crashed back to 28th after he left. Then Jackson took Andy Dalton who had thrown 36 int in the 2 years before Jackson arrived trimmed it to 24. The issue with the Brown was they were a 3-12 team that began actively dumping their talent. Jackson didn't adjust his game plan to the fact that he had 3rd string QBs When he had starters his record was 2-5-1 and 8-8 with the Raiders Thats why he isn't considered as bad as Urban. Not because he is black. Everything isn't about race.

@@danieldougan269 Caldwell got screwed in Detroit. He took the Lions (29-51 in the 5 years leading up to his hire) and finished with a 36-28 record and two playoff visits in four years. For Detroit, that's legendary, but for the figure heads, it wasn't good enough. They said they needed to "take the next step" when they fired him. After 4 years that's SORT of reasonable, but he had the team trending up. They needed to keep him around and maybe consider different assistants or building some depth in FA or the draft to continue to build on what he started. Instead they fired the most successful coach the city has had since Wayne Fontes, brought in Quinn's buddy from NE who completely lost the locker room, traded away our best talents, and regressed to worse than it was before Caldwell got here.

A few years ago, maybe more than a few, Meyer was head coach in college (possibly Florida?) and he got asked a question he didn't like at a press conference. A lot of coaches would snap back, but Meyer took it further, insulting the reporter, and threatening him with being ousted forever from the press conferences. Told me all I needed to know about Urban Meyer. People brushed it under the rug because he won games, but when the winning stops so does your job.

Coaches know their job security is nearly entirely determined by the minimum level of winning the powers that be will accept. In any sport, one team winning always means another team losing. Winning head coaches get new & more lucrative contracts while losing head coaches end up having to look for another job - with a coach's level of character seldom a significant part of the equation.

They know damned well that the no-good, egotistical, and self-important Ford family has been screwing them for 60 years, but don't have the backbone to acknowledge they've been had. 3. Lions fans and ownership have such low expectations that Sheila Ford Hamp jumped in the arms of Dan Campbell after they won their first game! 4. I somewhat agree if you can hire clowns like Urban Meyer you can turn a blind eye to Bieniemy. But I don't necessarily agree with hiring a coordinator that coaches the same side of the ball as there head coach. It makes you wonder every time the offence take the field is that Bieniemy drawing up the play's or is it Andy Reid? For example look at Matt Patricia and Matt Nagy both were consider "Amazing Coordinators" when they where with New England and Kansas City, but once they became head coaches they were absolutely terrible.

Eric Bienemy is brad Childress 2.0 Whichbis not bad but not great. He simply doesn’t interview well. He was our running back coach with Vikings before taking chiefs job. His PR relations need work. That’s half of Eric’s issue in these jobs. Personally I would get coached in how to interview and public speaking like a dale Carnegie course. They would really help Eric in his interviewing process. He would have had Texan job if he interviewed well. May not seem great but it’s a better job than Jets, Carolina or jags. It has a rabid fan base. A good history. Just looking for coach to set right culture. The guy they hired from ravens just beat the chargers and won two straight in a rebuilding year. Can’t ask for more. Lots of young players getting better. Look at jags and jets in comparison Texans are improving those two are train wrecks waiting to run off the tracks!!’

Yesterday most of the TV experts were humming and hawing about how Urban Meyer was suboptimal but maybe he could turn it around. The second he got fired they all got brave and put on their big-boy pants and started saying how they're always said he was a cad and a bounder. It's funny how they found their moral indignation as soon as he lost any power over access to his team.

It will be interesting to see if Meyer responds publicly to this firing and all the criticism he's gotten over his behavior in Jacksonville. If he does respond, will he be contrite & humble or will he continue, as he always has in the past, to blame others for the situation he now finds himself in? If he does the latter, the whole world will come down on him like a ton of bricks.

@scratchpenny
@scratchpenny 2 жыл бұрын
@@Paulafan5 True, but Meyer is not one of them. He's not well suited for the NFL. The things he's good at (team control, player development, recruiting, etc.) don't matter as much at the NFL level. You need to be more of a CEO type that knows how to roll with the punches and delegate. That's because players have a lot of power in the NFL and often make more money than everyone but the team owners. You can't treat them like kids and expect it to go well - they're high-value, high-performing professionals! And then he has all these questionable moral problems, which just makes his rigid, controlling approach even more laughable at the professional level.

Maybe he's a bad NFL coach, but this has been the worst overall team in the NFL for over a decade. In the past 11 seasons, the Jags 2nd best season was 6 wins. once. So 9 of the past 11 seasons, they've finished with 5 wins or less. 12 - 36 record the previous 3 seasons, including 1 win last year. And this is in the AFC South, the worst division in football. Zero Super Bowl appearances for any team in the division since 2009, when Indy lost by 14 to the Saints. They haven't even had a 12 win team in the regular season since 2012.
