Gareth Southgate has the rarest talent of producing the worst possible football with the best possible bunch of players. I have been watching his teams ever since he took over. Here is a summery how his teams play - from a football non-pundit🥵. 1. None of his players run, change position continuously, or create space while passing. They all stand still, except (sometimes) the one with the ball. 2. Four or five defenders aimlessly pass between each other, thereby driving up possession stats. 3. When eventually they pass the ball to a midfielder, nothing changes . As soon the midfielders see an oncoming opposition player, they pass back to defenders or better still - the goalkeeper. Now Go back to no 2. 4. In case of the other teams - you’ll see one or two back passes and the third player moves the ball forward, and the whole team runs forward. In the England team - it is banned. 5. The England players almost never win one-to-one battles for the ball, or regain possession- which they (are forced to) do for their clubs. 6. Southgate is always green with envy for other managers. So he wants to show off his ‘originality’ by playing players out of their positions and just hopes for something to happen. When it doesn’t work, he has pre - rehearsed answers ready for the Press . I am waiting for the day the England team wins freedom from this man.

Every ones a better manager but all they moan about is get a different players on and that isn't the issue. Southgate is England's most successful tournament manager since Ramsay - results prove that. The bigger question is how can it be that he and the rest of the coaching staff appear to be going backwards in getting performances out of what is a more gifted squad than he's had before. Swapping individuals round really isn't making much difference, its the system.

They had a handy run of games in the 2018 WC before they lost to Croatia. Easier run of games in the last euros and at home before they lost to Italy. Gareth has a fear to lose or lose heavy which is why despite having such attacking quality he plays so defensively. When they meet a top team they lose as proven over and over. Only have to look at Austria to see what's possible. The goals they score. Imagine Ralfnik having the English squad. In fact I'd imagine all the top international managers look at that England squad and think why tf do are they so defensive

Wake up! This is the Les Dawson Game Strategy and I think former England players who are pundits may also be in on it. I am surprised many people didn't go on more about the untypical fast movement of England in the second half after the substitutions. England was doing some incredible stuff. Then toned it down. They controlled the second half and for a reason. It was part of the strategy Why LES DAWSON GAME STRATEGY? Les was a famous comedian in the UK, whose act had a part where he played the piano very badly. You could recognize the song but it was funny bad. We found out after he died that it was an accomplished pianist and that it was incredibly difficult to do what he was doing. I think England has taken a page out of Les's book and is doing the same thing. Tournament football is like a poker game. Southgate isn't sitting at the table and shouting I have a full house ...if he did no one would bet and he would win nothing. I think Southgate, together with the pundits is leading the opposition into a false sense of security. I think his late subs were to manage the scoreline in case something happened in the Denmark match. I also think the strategy is a huge gamble that could explosive damage his career but I think he is willing to sacrifice himself for England, for that missed penalty. For me, Southgate is an honorable man who is being treated dishonorably by the England fans. Let him play his hand ...and give you verdict after. At the moment he is winning.

Personally, I would struggle to give them 3 out of 10 in the first half and 4 out of 10 in the second half. It’s also difficult to decide if we were worse or not against Denmark - at least we did snatch a goal in that game, but the players were so sloppy and lethargic (the first game against Serbia wasn’t anything to shout about either!). We should have easily won this game. I read another comment which mentioned that as soon as we get the ball, all the players become static - everyone off the ball becomes a statue and no one makes a run and creates space to play the ball forward. Inevitably, the ball then has to go backward and then back to Pickford - the process then starts again. Every team who plays us knows that they can easily keep a clean sheet if they get every player behind the ball - there’s no way we can break down a team. They then wait for us to play a sloppy ball, which they then exploit and snatch a goal!

Takes too long to make changes but that's nothing new he has done it at every major since he took over. Said in his interview after the game we need to look after young players manage them in this environment they all play week in week out in the Premier League if they need managing by only playing 15 minutes at the end of the game they shouldn't be in the squad. The young lads like Palmer, Gordon and Mainoo are exactly what we need fearless going forward should all have been brought on at half time for me.

Southgate undoubtedly has some good qualities and you can't deny his record but he seems to have really lost the plot. He seemed to be on the edge of a breakdown in his post match interview. He has made some crazy decisions that everyone can see are bad decisions. Have to say I can't blame the players that much. Large part of the dilemma of English football is that there is hardly no interest in the contenders.
