Klopp got 3 years before he succeeded because Liverpool were finishing 7th and 8th for multiple years. There was demonstrable progress. He got them to the Europa League final the first season, then back into the Champions League in his first full season, and then to the Champions League final in his 2nd full season. Then they won it the following year. Won the prem the season after that. There was no realistic expectation he would win anything in those first three seasons.

Thats not very smart… Chelsea built their success the same way, no one says wenger would’ve won more leagues if not for mourinho… FFP isn’t fair in the sense that united is allowed to spend billions on the back of SAF success yet smaller teams aren’t allowed to get better, point being all managers in history had certain challenges… klopp is in no worse position than wenger facing SAF and Mourinho

Klopp is Premier League legend without question. He won everything, absolutely everything. If we take away European competitions and focus only on England or even Premier League. Klopp until this season has 3 season with 90+ point (only Pep has that), Klopp has 2nd longest unbeaten streak in PL 44 games to Wenger`s 49 games, but during his streak Klopp won more points than Wenger`s streak, that is legendary. Klopp has streak of 38 games with only draws and only wins, nobody has done it, it is legendary, Klopp would have at least 2 more titles if it was for the 115 charges of City. Klopp comes and take terrible club in the middle of the season and lead ti to 2 finals, first full season gets, second full season gets CL final, 3rd full season wins CL and wins 97 points in PL, 4th season wins PL with record margin, all that is done with money like a middle of the table team. Klopp saved the PL, if it wasn`t for him it would look like French league or Bundesleague.

The reason I think Jürgen Klopp gets legendary status is for what he has done for Liverpool FC. He has resurrected the club back to iconic status. The fans love him and he is a strong profile in English football. Anyone that did for a club what Klopp has done for Liverpool deserves legendary status.... He has won all domestic trophies and the CL and is a front runner in this year´s EL race. And the club World Cup... If he wins the EL, he'll have won every competition there is to win with Liverpool. If that doesn't give you legendary status, I don´t know what does...

For me, a legend doesn't need a full trophy cabinet, but the courage, sincerity, and pride to go their own way against all odds and make a lasting impact on people. Muggsy Bogues never won an NBA title, Bill Murray never won an Oscar, and Eddie the Eagle never even won a flower pot, etc. But, for me, they are also legends because they tread different paths than anyone else. Because they are prepared to fail magnificently. Because they take the difficult path, not the easy one. Because they touch, move, and inspire, rallying people behind them. Because they don't put themselves first, they put the cause first. For these reasons, for me, Klopp would be a legend, even without great successes.

No other manager in the time span of the Premier League brand has managed more 90+ point seasons. Klopp is tied with Pep on 3. Chelsea have done it three times but spread out over two managers. And Klopp during the same time period has made 3 Champions League finals and won one, the line between his LFC side and Pep's City side was so fine at times you would need a microscope to see it. Trophy lists don't recognise this excellence.

In the 2 years Man City pipped Liverpool by 1 point, Liverpool would have won any other year with 97 points and 92 points would have won all but 5 other years of EPL. And Liverpool don't have 115 FFP charges against them.

I think it's perfectly fine to say you'd prefer to be coached by Klopp, or even that you prefer Klopp's style of football, but to categorically claim Klopp is better than Pep, considering the number of years they've been battling against each other with Pep almost always finishing top, is just silly. Personal preference (and club allegiance) is not the same as fact.

@@matthewjamison The charges certainly cast a shadow - but even if they are proven to be true, the 'advantage' they'll have given Pep is to spend what other big six managers spend. As proven by both chelsea and united during Peps era in the Premier League, spending monev does not quarantee success.

Klopp to Pep is what Wenger was to Ferguson. Pep is at another level and one of the GOAT. Objectively I don't know how you can say Klopp is 'better' but the fact Simon does maybe says more about him as an ex-football club owner who lost all his money.

@LloydJenkins-x1w11 ай бұрын
Simon is overthinking this Klopp legend argument. For the Premier League and Liverpool, he is truly a legend because he has been such an influential figure to the league and the club. The Premier League produced some of the best title races ever with Klopp pushing Pep to extreme heights competing for the league. Klopp has won the lot with half of Pep's net spend. Certainly a legend

Find it odd that you can debate Klopp record and not mention his insane win percentage, insane point tallies that would have won leagues by double figures without a City around and the incredible run of CL final runs?! Like seriously, how can none of these mad achievements allied with his style of okay and charisma not be mentioned?

Im a Unuted fan and i can honestly say Klopp is a PL legend, not just has he won the league which is a hard thing for any manager to do, hes also a huge character, but there is a big difference between him and Pep & Ferguson, them 2 are PL gods and a level above him
@greconho7611 ай бұрын
i disagree on that... it depends for who your routing for... ask for example someone from Dortmund, who they think, is the better manager... i won´t believe that they answer Pep over Klopp... you ask Fans from Munich, they will tell you it´s Pep... if you are neutral, you will not find many differences between them two. You can argue Pep won more... but can you imagine Pep in Second Division and promote them to First... actually, I don´t.
@awbox111 ай бұрын
@@greconho76 yeah i think if pep was in thr chanpionship he'd do what kompany did with burley but far better. He'd get promoted and play the best football in the league. Pep hasnt just changed the eay 1 or 2 managers pkay football, hes changed the way football is played in all 4 of the top english divisions, league two sides like mansfield are now playing possession football with inverted fullbacks, thats never happened before, his influence is huge. Klopp is a great manager like i say but he doesnt have that, & other than a really good 18 month patch when he won the league and CL league hes not done that much else with liverpool before or aftee that, manchester united have been in their worst 6 year period in the last 40+ years. And in the last 6 seasons theyve still finished above klopps liverpool 3 times while united are in a major crisis and playing awful football and sacking managers every 18months. And id say 90% of neutrals would say Pep is the better manager given hes regarded as the #1 manager in world football by prettt much everyone

For me the most important thing to sort out is Trent's contract, not Mo's. When Salah's contract expires he'll be 33. Salah is an absolute legend don't get me wrong but Trent is the future. Same with Virgil he'll be 33 nearly 34. I'm more concerned about Alisson as keepers can go on for longer. But first we need to nail down Trent at the end of the season.

One should not forget that Klopp also beat Bayern with Dortmund, he has shown in two different leagues that he can beat better funded, better equipped teams, with much higher financial power and better individual players by playing as a team and by improving unknown players. He created Lewandowski. Neither Wenger nor Ferguson has done it in two of Europes big leagues. Only Guardiola, Ancelotti and Mourinho are in this category.

People forget that Klopp had a balanced transfer budget for the first 3-4 years. Quite literally he spend ZERO on his squad. Add two Bundesliga Titles and two DFB-Pokal trophies and he has 3 league titles and 3 national cups in the Europe’s Top4 leagues, 3 Champions League Finals and 6x runners-up in the league with clubs that had less than half the budget of the winners. Looking at Pep on the other hand is like playing Football Manager with an infinite money cheat code…
