Reasons why Mihawk is equal to or slightly stronger than Shanks 1. Mihawk is the worlds STRONGEST swordsman (who ‘sits at the TOP as the STRONGEST of ALL SWORDSMAN) and Shanks is considered by Oda as a complete swordsman 2. Apart from being the worlds STRONGEST swordsman, Brannew (marine info guy) said that Mihawks swordsmanship SKILLS are known to exceed even those of red-haired Shanks 3. Shanks became famous and got his notoriety by dueling Mihawk (who was even famous before the great pirate era) back in the days and they are roughly the same age (mihawk being older) , so Mihawk is a technically a legend by his own right. 4. After Shanks became famous from dueling Mihawk, they kept having duels even past the days Shanks became Yonko 1st commander level.The duels stopped 12 years ago when Shanks lost his arm and was worth 1Bill. 5. There is no factual evidence that Shanks didn’t lose potential by losing an arm.. he grew as a character but his potential was still hindered. 6. Oda has stated in a recent data book that Shanks was ONCE as powerful as the worlds strongest swordsman. This was said to hype up Shanks which in turn hypes up Mihawk. 7. @@MrYondaime705 Yes there is a difference of course, i mean, luffy uses haki without a sword lol, but true swordsmanship cannot be separated from haki though, so given mihawk and shanks BOTH use a sword, id say it's clear mihawks stronger, now, shanks may have greater haki, but it maybe that the combination of mihawks sword skill and haki, is a more powerful result than the combination of shanks sword skill and haki, either way, it's clear mihawk is AT LEAST equal to shanks id say. A good example would be, say, boxing, if two boxers fought, and one boxer had more skill in boxing itself, but lost because the other guy was just to much stronger physically, would you say that the guy who lost won the boxing match? would you give him the title? of course not, same here. SBS Vol 101 Red Databooks Facts and Mihawk is stated many times to be the Strongest Swordsman in the World, the one who sits above all other swordsman. 2. According to the One Piece Vivre Card Databook Mihawk is waiting for someone stronger than Shanks to one day appear. The implications of this statement are pretty important. If he was weaker than Shanks, then someone on Shanks level would be more than enough for him. This is as clear as it gets that Mihawk > Shanks 3. Being a swordsman does not mean only skilled in swordsmanship it requires much more. A swordsman is a literal fighter which mean they will use everything and anything to make their swordsmanship stronger. Example, Zoro used Advance Conquerer's haki to boost his attacks when he fought against King does that mean Zoro is not a swordsman because he used other type of power other than swords attack? No Zoro is still a swordsman 4. When Zoro trains with Mihawk, Mihawk taught him haki he did not teach Zoro some special swords skills or attacks he prioritize haki above all to become a stronger swordsman. 5. Mihawk has forged his blade into a permanent black blade which is forged through countless battles by using armament haki. Again haki related not some swords skills. And he wields the strongest and finest black blade in the world right now plus the only living character to wields a permanent supreme black blade. 6. I'd also chalk her loss up to her being bested by Law and Kid with the use of Kaido's bombs over a clear indicator of Law and Kid overpowering her (their win is still a win, but context matters) Same for Kaido. Not to mention that Blunt attacks are more likely to knock someone down, you can knock someone down with a punch, but you might not knock them down by giving them a big cut with a sword, even though the sword would do more damaged. Also, Kaido's skin/scales are the most durable part of his body, which is why it's emphasized so much. On top of that, Zoro replicated a feat that only Oden (arguably Yonko level) could do, but he did it to a stronger version of Kaido. Shanks wasn't even a yonko at the time. And although Mihawk has continued to improve, so has Shanks. Shanks has had arguably tougher opponents since he's a yonko, whereas Mihawk became a Warlord in exchange for being left alone. Since the manga sells the idea that you become stronger by fighting tougher opponents, one could argue Shanks has had greater growth over that time. But there's no way to know for sure whether they've both developed at the same rate. Could go either way. However, you are right about Mihawk's words. He says he's waiting for someone "even stronger" than Shanks, which implies someone stronger can definitively beat him. After all, Mihawk's goal is to be beaten by a superior. This could mean that he and Shanks fought evenly or that he could/did beat Shanks. But again, this was 13 years ago. For point #6. Shanks' epithet is the Killer of Observation Haki, so he would nullify Mihawk's clairvoyance. At the same time, Mihawk lost interest in fighting Shanks because Shanks lost his arm. I tend to think that Shanks is a bit stronger, though there's no way to tell. We haven't really seen Shanks' fighting style aside from absurd haki. But I hope we find out soon

That 3.5 Bil isn't Mihawk's initial/original bounty. It's been hinted that Hawkeye got 2 bounty increases. One is when the Warlord System was nullified (announced by Fullalead) and Mihawk joining Cross Guild. Shanks COULD be stronger than Mihawk if: 1. Shanks have completely discard the way of the sword and is no longer considered a swordsman because if Shanks is stronger and is a swordsman, then Mihawk's title would be false. 2. The last duel between Mihawk and Shanks was either Mihawk's victory or a draw and Mihawk or Shanks refused to duel after Shanks lost his arm because he thought it would no longer be fair (which I doubt because in the world of pirates and swordsman, it doesn't really matter what disability you have as long as you can still take your opponent down. It's not like Shanks needed to use both his hands. If he did, he could learn a new technique but if he still lost then it just proves that Mihawk is stronger. Also, Mihawk's biggest problem seems to be boredom, the lack of a worthy rival, yet he refused to duel with Shanks. As I said, he's not one to judge based on lost of limb so there's a big chance they dueled once afterwards or Shanks attitude is defeated enough that he doesn't think Shanks is worthy to be his rival anymore) 3. Time. Maybe the last uel between them was when Shanks JUST lost his arm and haven't really adapted to it and lost badly. Since then Mihawk have refused to duel him thinking he was no longer worthy. The power cliffing in wano is stupid and I fully expect Kat to be shown stronger when he reappears but for now, this is where he scales. Katakuris only advantage rn is his future sight, while this is broken, if you have enough speed its less so. And yes Zoro has better speed feats First off, the same whole cake island luffy that fought katakuri gets blitzed and one shot by base kaido by his thunder bagua. The same luffy later on dodges the exact same attack in base (kaido even comments that it is the same scenario). He then can stack on all his gears to obserd lvls of speed. That is rooftop luffy. Meaning the gap between kaido and kat’s speed is pretty wide. Zoro then goes on the show speed feats relative to hybrid kaido (who should be faster) and even blitzes him a couple of times. He has also shown the ability to react to characters with insane speeds in his fight against King. And the durability we have seen from kat (because he is so reliant on future sight) I wouldn’t be surprised if Zoro one to three shot him when he starts landing hits.

If Shanks was No1 as an individual while having the most balanced crew (meaning the difference between commanders and captains is smaller), Shanks would also have the strongest crew. king is also a beast i cant imagine how people like marco and katakuri can deal dmg to him , king also had higher stamina and durability than those 2. marco 2v1 king queen coz he surprised them with his regeneration ability. after their fight especially king was unharmed and marco exhausted..over time in an 1v1 fight king will get the upper hand against marco and katakuri.
