Colin Firth may be the best Mr. Darcy, but Wishbone is still a pretty cute Mr. Darcy. While I'm known for being a fan of Star Trek, I'm also a fan of period dramas, particularly Jane Austen period dramas. And it was the 1995 Pride and Prejudice miniseries that kicked off my love of period dramas, classic literature, and Colin Firth. So join me today for a look at the Wishbone episode "Furst Impressions", an adaptation of Pride and Prejudice for kids on public access television.

Red Dwarf S7 E6 Beyond a Joke (Pride and Prejudice World) If you have never seen Red Dwarf, that is NOT the episode to start with, but they do have a bit of a "holodeck" scene in that story.

0:42 i know the title was a joke-Wazterpiece Theater, but if you are serious about it, do it. Some of us and others outside your normal circle of fans, also enjoy period/history stuff. At the very least, start with the Star Trek fanbase and do an episode with Katherine Janeway clothing and her early holodeck programs that we never saw again. Or something from TNG like Barclay's fantasies on swash buckling uniforms or Picard's detective epiosde, Data's Sherlock Holmes or all of them combined. You might have a breakout episode and get more fans outside of Star Trek, who might start liking Star Trek and your channel. The worst that can happen, is that you made a video you enjoyed making and got your normal amount of likes. I believe in you! 😊

I just watched this now. Recommendation? This thumbnail came up and I didn't realize it was your video and ignored it. Maybe some uniformity with thumbnails? I was in my 20's for most of the 90's so I missed this wishbone show. It looks awesome though.

That's a good point. I remember having a tough time putting this thumbnail together; part of the challenge is finding pictures with a high enough resolution to work with, namely of Wishbone. I might go back and redo this thumbnail. Wishbone was pretty awesome, though. I think it ended up ending in the second season because the actor who played Joe grew up.

She had Yeoman Rand's hairstyle!! Admittedly, I haven't read, or seen Pride & Prejudice so it's nice to get an idea of what the story (more or less) went. Plus Wishbone is an adorable doggie and I would just pet him all day! Great video as always!

That really is the point of Wishbone. You might not get every detail from the original book (as much as I rant about it 😅), but you get the overall gist and classic works of literature become accessible to kids.

@@JanelleWaz look, they had a limited budget. You want period appropriate attire or you want Wishbone replaced by a hand puppet? 😁 And yes we're gonna MST3K a period piece at some point. At this point I think it's a crime NOT to...

16:12 never understood why social norms were against dating outside your status. You love someone, go for it! Isn't it better to gain your own fortune, rather than inheriting it anyway?

Off the top of my head, I think a lot of it has to do with social classes in England at the time. America always had the idea of the self made man: even if you're born poor, you can always work your way up. In England at the time, it was harder to move up socially, and even if you manage to move up, your background always followed you around. But if anyone reading this is more of an expert on this, feel free to chime in.

Joe's clothes are pretty on point for 1995. But he needs to do something about that hair, while bowl cuts was a common thing for boys then. It also opened up bullying since the boys that had them typically couldn't afford to go to a barber. Caroline has hair like a phrygian cap,

Joe did eventually lose the bowl cut in the second season, but the second season was pretty short lived since Joe grew up too quickly. He could almost have passed for a college student. 😆

@@JanelleWaz That's interesting. Looking at his age he would be around 15 when S2 completed filming, and 16 for the filming of the movie. But looking at him, he definitely hit puberty hard and sort of reminds me of what a 16 year old looked like when I was 10.

20:07 why would this have screwed over the other sisters?
@JanelleWaz
@JanelleWaz 19 күн бұрын
Basically, their sister's scandal would have screwed up their chances of finding good husbands and ruined their reputations. The idea was that if the sister could do something like that, the other sisters must also have bad character. In Pride and Prejudice, both Jane and Elizabeth are good, upstanding women, but that wouldn't have mattered because everyone would know about Lydia living with Wickham unmarried (which was a huge scandal at the time). Since all the Bennet daughters didn't have much of an inheritance coming their way, if they can't find husbands, they could be reduced to poverty or relying on relatives after Mr. Bennet's death.
