I am 69. My cousin took me and my brothers to see them back about 1965. I had never watched a basketball game so it was all new to me. This was in Washington DC by the way. The only specific gagI remember was the water bucket gag where they all wipe their faces out of a bucket and then throw it into the spectators faces but it’s actually confetti. big laughs

They played mostly against deliberately ineffective opponents such as the Washington Generals. My favorite gags were Curly O’Neals dribbling exhibitions, the basketball on a tether and the supposed bucket of water being accidentally thrown on fans only to be confetti. When I was young I used to think they were the greatest ball team on earth only to find out they were entertainers nevertheless they had some seriously talented players on that team including Wilt the Stilt Chamberlain at one time. I got to see them on the campus of Notre Dame and loved their hilarious antics!

Krusty the Clown explaining to his accountant why he bet his money on the Washington Generals. " I figured they were due." At one point, their record against the Globetrotters, the Generals were 1-2495. What is amazing is that the games were setup so that M. Lemon could hit a game winning shot at the buzzer. This might mean that Meadowlark may have hit that shot 2495 consecutive times before he missed. While it was indeed an all staged show, that is still an amazing record/achievement.

When the Harlam Globetrotters were started in Chicago the NBA was all white. The Globetrotters really were the best in the world. The Generals may have been second best. I saw them in the 1960's as a child and remember it clearly. It was the coolest thing. Now I realize that group was part of history and if I am right it was the original cast of the Harlem Globe Travelers. One thing that I recall is when one of the players had a bucket of water in a bucket and threw it on a another person and they got all wet. There was another bucket where one of the Harlem players picked it up and fake the audience out because they thought they was going to be soaking wet. When the player finally threw it on the audience it was just confetti 🎊. Lol
