Will have been described by everyone, but my take is: It's luxury and immensely fattening. It's concentrated cream with the consistency of soft butter. If it takes a month off my life for each mouthful I would still happily eat it. You have not lived, at all, unless you have tried proper Devon clotted cream on sweet pie (or sour) or on a scone with jam(Jelly if you like!) I also seem to remember hearing that Alan Carr was the audience warm-up guy, but become so good he was given his own show. He is very heavily paid now.

Alan Carr is from Northamptonshire. The accent there is 'South Eastmidlands'. I'm about 60 miles up the road in Leicestershire and even I think the Northamptinshire accent is strange. They sound like Pirates crossed with a London accent.

Clotted cream is double cream (heavy cream) that's been very slowly baked in the oven and taken out and allowed to set. It gives it a much thicker consistency, kind of like soft butter, but with a crunchy crust on top. It comes from the Devon and Cornwall peninsula in Britain. Cornwall has a Celtic culture and language all to itself, whereas Devon is English, hence the petty rivalry, lol.

It's super easy to make clotted cream if you can't get hold of it - take heavy cream (NOT ultra pasteurized or UHT - that's important, pasteurized is ok, but unpasteurized is best) and unsalted butter - 0.1 oz butter per 25 fl oz (us) of cream - put in heavy bottomed saucepan and heat over med-low heat while stirring until it simmers (NOT boils). Keep stirring on a simmer for 20 mins until it has reduced to half the volume, then pour into a large shallow dish (you want a high surface area), cover and put in the fridge overnight - it keeps 3-7 days. It's basically ultra-fat content cream - so rich! Spread on Scones with strawberry jam and have with afternoon tea! It's delicious. Very much a treat we all have for tea on holidays or special occasions.
