You could make the argument that Chicago Vs. Pittsburgh at end of the 2023 season had an even greater butterfly effect. If Chicago loses that game they don't get Bedard and Florida's run to the Cup doesn't happen. The trajectory of 2 franchises completely changed because of 1 game
@anthonynorris21044 ай бұрын
Could arguably include the pens, and sharks as changed trajectory as well. Yes the pens still missed the playoffs he next year, but the removal of Hextall, bringing in Dubas, and the Karlsson trade. Still too early to tell how that games fallout settles out the pens and sharks, but they're an outlier. To your point, massive implications for Florida and Chicago.
@ozma69184 ай бұрын
More than two franchises, actually... if the Panthers don't make the playoffs that year, the Habs don't draft Mailloux 31st overall with Florida's pick.
@adampastor2104 ай бұрын
Also don't forget the Bruins, literally the best team ever, who probably could've gone on a deep playoff run and maybe even win the cup had the pens beat the hawks
@IDontKnowWhatToNameThis4 ай бұрын
That’s not necessary true, Chicago could still win the sweepstakes due to other stuff happening, plus they have an even better chance of winning too.

@@ozma6918 wrong year. mailloux was the habs own pick in 2021. if the panthers miss in 2023, the habs have a top 15 pick and could have used it on matthew wood (nsh), colby barlow (wpg, and the guy i would have chosen), or oliver moore (chi). with a pick this high, and with those players available, we keep it and thus do not trade for alex newhook.

I hate that it's constantly called and embarrassing play missing that empty net when the puck obviously jumped up over his stick. Random things happen and sometimes it just looks bad. But even when I'm watching at 1 and 1/2 speed and you slow it down the puck obviously bounces over his stick when he goes to shoot it or stick handle. It's just an incredibly unfortunate event on a huge stage
@Muzzsjm4 ай бұрын
Stefan had so much time he could have put the puck in before the bounce though. Pause this video at 8:33 look how far he travels he could have scored seconds before that bounce

@@Muzzsjmbut to do that he would have had to be planning for it to magically bounce off his stick or something else wildly unheard of. He did everything right and still the hockey gods fucked him. @romaliop4 ай бұрын
The bounce is just unlucky if he then follows the puck behind the net kills the play there. Anyone could excuse him for that, maybe he'd get some laughs for a few days or weeks, but then everyone forgets about it. The real issue is that he not only misses on the empty netter because he's trying to be fancy with it, but then also panics and sweeps the puck directly to an opponent just in time for them to create one last scoring chance and tie the game.

Oh, boy, do I have one for the ages. Orioles and Yankees in 1996. The Jeter HR in the playoffs that was interfered with by a fan before Orioles RF Tarasco could potentially catch it. The Yankees would become a dynasty in the late 90s into the early 2000s. Meanwhile, the Orioles would plunge into 14 years of losing with shitty managers, terrible lineups, and an overall brutal culture. I could describe what I'm talking about here, but that can entail way too much for anyone to read (or even care). I'm happy with the current regime. Mike Elias has done a fantastic job as GM to make us relevant again in the AL East. Now, with the new ownership---they actually care about the team---hopefully they can attract some veterans to fill out the lineup for deep playoff runs for years to come. Pitchers... We will need plenty of them. Preferably starters. Means, Bradish, and Wells have elbow/Tommy John issues. I think many fans can't wait for the return of our closer from last year in Felix Bautista (recovering from TJ surgery). He won't be back, in my opinion, until this time next year.

I don't know what's with the definition of own goal, but to me this isn't it. Fabbro didn't even have any control whatsoever of that puck, at best I see it as an unfortunate event for the Preds there. To me an own goal is actively shooting the puck in your net (oftentimes by accident, like a D making a back pass and it ends up in your own net), at worst deflecting it intentionally and mistakenly sending it into your own net (like some defensive plays; but in this case, I'd consider it when there's an actual sense of control of the puck). But this? Eh. I just don't like how it's been defined.

In NHL history? no. Stanley Cup series clinching goal in 06-07 was an own goal. The Chris Phillips flub summed up how Ottawa played in the final beautifully. Not to mention Steve Smith's 1986 own goal in game 7 of the Smyth final making the score 3-2 for the Flames and preventing the Oilers from winning their 3rd Stanley Cup in a row. Instead, Montreal clinched it with their rookie goalie P. Roy.

phillips' own goal was the cup winner, but in a 5 game series where the sens looked totally overmatched. if the oilers win that game in 1986, they stand a great chance of winning the cup, as it was the only year out of five that they didn't. and it happened on smith's birthday, in a game 7. steve smith wins this, and it's not close.
