I've seen so many people react to this show that I hadn't realized you hadn't gotten to it yet. This show is so good. I can't wait to watch you watching it. Tomo is voiced by the same voice actress that voiced Ai in Oshi no Ko, which makes your comment about her sounding like a bumpkin very funny since that is how Ai was described in that show.

Honestly, it's more than them both being aloof idiots. They are best friends and have been since they were kids. Starting a more intimate relationship is scary for them, as it would mean there would be a change in the relationship dynamic they have had till now. Such a big change for young teenagers are scary.

Since it seems Faroh of the comments has already finished this series, I'll give a little more context on the manga as someone who read this while it was airing. This was a daily updating single page 4-koma manga. Which is why some parts of the anime feel a little disjointed. Each joke was basically 1 chapter and the next joke released the next day as a separate chapter

The series eventually explains Jun's reasons for not pursuing a romantic relationship with Tomo. It's a short story so the character development is really fast. There's five main characters. The third girl is coming. It's mostly just a comedy. There's no melodrama or anything.

The manga is even better than the anime. Also, be careful at Misaki-senpai, he might look like weak, but actually when he snaps off he's stronger than Tomo and Jun combined together...
