Watch in “higher picture quality” 720p60 or 1080p60 ! Sorry for the cloudiness in the water. I had just fed them. My redtail shark is peaceful most of the time but he does chase my Siamese algae eaters here and there if he catches them on the driftwood or in the plants. Those are his plants ! The amount of times I’ve seen him go after my Congo tetras, rainbowfish, and roseline sharks, I can count on one hand. He mainly doesn’t like those SAE’s nibbling on his wood and plants, or the heaters and filter intakes lol. I don’t normally get this side of him on camera as I’d have to sit there recording for 20+ minutes but this behavior does ramp up a little bit around feeding time. Redtail sharks typically start to show their aggression when they reach around the 3 1/2 inch mark. Once they reach that 4 inch mark, that’s when their personality is 100% developed and it doesn’t progress beyond that. This redtail shark you are looking at is 5 inches long so what you typically see in my videos is how he is going to be for the rest of his life : Mostly peaceful with some occasional sporadic episodes like this. Remember, “mostly peaceful” doesn’t mean “totally peaceful”

They are both very closely related cousins. I imagine it's a body shape thing too, even with the barbs sometimes. They will chase off some SAE or other cypranids that are "sharkminnows" for sure. Great that you were able to show this. Absolutely isn't an aggressive fish by any sense of normal terms that I've seen.
