The reason why Arcades are remembered so fondly is because nowadays online gaming feels so isolated and lonely, it's kind of similar to going to a pub vs drinking at home, sure it's cheaper to drink at home and there's no riff-raff to deal with but a pub is a social hub and a way to get out of the house, that's kinda the appeal of arcades or the way I see it anyway, by the time I was born the PS2 was a thing so I wasn't around for the golden age. I will say, fighting games were much better back then though.
@Drzuul
@Drzuul Жыл бұрын
Things are definitely less social. I won’t lie. It’s nice to be able to hop on KOF or melty just play some random stranger for 40 games straight but after that you’ll probably never get to play that person again. Discord groups and locals can alleviate this but even then discord isn’t perfect and locals are becoming less and less common. Un ironically, Mortal Kombat with its open mic feature is something I’d like to see in more fighting games because it kind of brings that human element back to it you know? I’ll have to disagree with you with the state of fighting games though I think games have just been getting better and better.
@GenghisConnThr333
@GenghisConnThr333 Жыл бұрын
@@Drzuul Eh, can't really agree with you on the state of fighters, I'd much rather have a game with broken tech and secret unlockable characters with a sequel released a couple of years later as opposed to a balanced e-sports core-values friendly fighter whose life-span is dragged out for seven years with DLC seasons, not to mention how they're all now trying to dumb down inputs for normies who don't even play fighters. I dunno, it all feels somewhat sterile nowadays especially now that stuff like crossovers aren't a thing because the last two big ones flopped and the fact that there's only a handful of games to play outside of the big five (also ArcSys fell off hard, I've heard nothing good about anything they've put out since DBFZ).
@Drzuul
@Drzuul Жыл бұрын
I do agree with your point on dlc. It does feel very dragged out and I do miss revisions as they’d usually have much more meaningful changes over a balance patch but I don’t miss paying for them. Inputs aren’t necessarily getting easier it’s the input buffer that’s becoming more lenient. Like kof for example still has hard combos but preforming them is easier because the input interpreter is more lenient. IMO Arc sys hasn’t put out a great fighter since the last blazblue revision, DBFZ is a game in retrospect I think was really not great gameplay wise. I can understand not jiving with the esportsification of fighters but I also think that because people have been making them for so long, the general idea of a fighting game has been figured out, which is why things tend to feel Samey compared to older games in which were more unique.
@GenghisConnThr333
@GenghisConnThr333 Жыл бұрын
@@Drzuul I'm not bothered about input buffer, as someone who still goes back to play PS1 and SNES era fighters I'm glad input buffer is more lenient, I'm mainly on about stuff like Street Fighter 6, Granblue and that League fighter which are just making special move inputs single buttons (not to mention stuff like removing DP motions for most characters in MVCI), I know Street Fighter has classic controls but there's no point in using them. I do dislike the practice of having to buy new revisions and I'm glad that's dead, my preferred way of handling that though would just be making a sequel that reuses assets like with the Street Fighter Alpha games or earlier KOF games, I wouldn't mind DLC and updates if it was just one or two seasons before moving on (kinda like how NRS did it to start with) but I don't know how the hell Capcom managed to squeeze SEVEN years out of SF5.

Good video, it's honestly wild to me that this and so many other stories exist of real world violence over these games. Someone I knew who lived in Texas told me all sorts of stories from oldheads of people getting stabbed over Marvel 2 money matches and such, it's really fucked up stuff. In general that's why I roll my eyes when people over-romanticize the oldschool scene or arcades in that way. Not to say that era was worthless or should be completely disrespected because of the worst of it, but I don't really support historical revisionism either. I have only played fighting games on arcade hardware a handful of times myself and while it's definitely a fun experience, things are definitely objectively better as they are now overall.
@Drzuul
@Drzuul Жыл бұрын
I agree the era isn’t worthless but I either hear really romanticized things like how skillful everyone was or about how people would murder your first born son for throwing too much. I’ve never gotten to play on quality arcade hardware, the ones I have gone to have knock off American parts that just feel awful like I played SvC chaos at a dinner with one of the stiffest bat top sticks ever. Things are definitely better than ever before but things have tended to gotten less social and I don’t think that’s an online thing I think people are generally just less social today and it trickles down to locals and events.

i don't think that it's impossible that those two players became friends after such a gruesome event here in brazil there was a case where two dudes suffered the same thing, their girlfriends were cheating both of them and it have lead them to a fight where it needed cops to stop them, after both of these dudes stopped fighting and after they knew about each other situation they both laughed at it and became best friends after this day. i know that this case is not that brutal as this one of KOF 97, but it's funny knowing that it's actually possible that those two player became best friends after this case, after all men will become friends in the most bizarre or brutal situations.

I will continue making content I can promise that. That’s basically how I feel but it’s easy to say things when hindsight is 20/20 this probably happened under the course of 30 seconds and in the moment you don’t always think rationally ya know? Then again maybe he literally is the Shiki Tohno not to be confused with the SHIKI Tohno

Flipping heck. I’m glad player 1 was ok in the end. I understand why p2 did what he did but really I think a lot of people end up dead because someone else misunderstood a situation and used a knife in self defence where a punch (or running away) would have been just as effective and less deadly. Don’t bring a knife to the arcade!!
@Drzuul
@Drzuul Жыл бұрын
Yeah I don’t know if I buy the whole “the knife was for my wife story”. I agree with you too. The main take away from this story is to try not to escalate conflict as best as you can because you never know what the person or people around you have on them especially in this day.
