He Touched Me

The idea for the song came from an old preacher friend of Bill’s named Dr. Dale Oldham. One day he mentioned to Bill: “The word ‘touch’ is a very powerful word. It come up so often in the New Testament stories about Jesus touching people’s eyes and healing them, or touching people’s lives and changing them. It’s a special word and you ought to write a song that praises His touch.”
Pastor Oldham’s son Doug recorded the song first and found that while it was popular in the circles he was singing it in, it was even more popular in the churches. Concert goers were bringing it back to their congregations. The song exploded! It was recorded by the Gaithers, by Henry Slaughter and by the Imperials. The Imperials version was the one Elvis heard. He just had to record that song. Bill remembers: “…I finally got a copy of his record, I just just stood there saying, ‘Hey, Elvis is singing my song! But that was all a bonus. I just really love the song.”

This is my mom's favorite song. She will be 94 on 4/27 and dementia has robbed her of a lot of words and memories but she still sings this song. I can't wait to share it with her. God bless.

This is one of my favorite songs. I recalled back as a teen-ager while I was about go to sleep, I felt a tough in the center of my back. It was so unusual. I knew it was the hands of the Lord. I'm so thankful to have a tough from the Master's hand.

I heard this from a man by the name of Dave Boyer. He is a really good singer and his style is a lot like Frank Sinatra's was. He usually sings with a big band. He used to sing in the nightclub in Las Vegas before he was saved. He has a real good testimony. Look him up on You Tube. I love this song! I love all songs though, lol. Especially your version of The Old Rugged Cross!!!!

Every time I listen to the song, I vividly remember when I was at the lowest point of my life, and alone in the darkness of the night I prayed for forgiveness and repented and the Lord heard my petition .There is a physical element to it, in my experience , it is tho asif I could feel a huge gust of euphoria and joy all at once fill in the center of my chest, I didn't understand what was happening to me at the time because prior to that, I was a practical atheist in the way I lived, I always use to feel empty inside, a deep sense of loneliness, until that day. I searched the scriptures for 3 years in silence trying to figure what actualy happend,until I came down on Ezekiel chapter 36. And now nearly 6 years later, when I listen to this song, it has immense deep meaning to me, like I'm hearing it for the first time again, like being touched by the hand of Christ.

Oh so beautiful Kaoma. My cousins (Booth Brothers) sing with the Gaithers and Bill and Gloria have written some beautiful songs. I Believe in a Hill Called Mt. Calvary, There's Just Something about that Name, etc. You sir, do a beautiful job on everything you sing. As we often say, "You could sing a phone book beautifully". My mom was here a few weeks ago and I showed her your video singing "It is Well With My Soul." Mom was stunned how beautiful you sang it. She said Nobody has ever sang that more beautiful than you. A quartet? Well, you’re seeing and hearing an ensemble of four singers there and you would think there are indeed four men in the clip, perhaps brothers, quadruplets, enjoying a worship song together. Amazingly though the a cappella version was NOT done by a team of quadruplets or blood relatives. No, not a team, but rather this great rendition is actually just one man. The man in the clip is Kaoma Chende from Africa, Zambia. Born and raised in a family of six, Kaoma is a pastor’s son whose interest in music matured in him at the age of nine when he joined his Church choir. He has since sang in many groups and at the moment is singing as a solo artist; a member of Psalms of Africa and The City Prophets Quartet. He shares, “I like all types of music, open minded and willing to try and learn new techniques/genre. I can not perform quartet music live because it is just me doing all the parts. So, for live performances I only do my solo music. I do not have an album out just yet. Praying and hoping to in the near future. Thank you, God Bless, and keep me in your prayers.” “I’ll keep singing long as the good Lord allows,” he said. Other than singing, Kaoma loves the out doors and enjoys drawing and painting in his free time, as disclosed on his Facebook page.Just how did he do the quartet? Kaoma Chende filmed himself separately singing the same song from four different positions and in different tones while being in the same room. It’s impossible not to love the gospel classic “The Old Rugged Cross” which he has incredibly interpreted with his wonderful ‘solo’ quartet; if there ever is such a term. When asked by a commenter how he did the video, he replied, “After effects or vegas pro…Both are good.” However, whatever it is he used to arrange the quartet video, overall, he managed to do everything well. This man is so talented; having such a powerful voice that brings deeper meaning to the songs he render. Well, he has many uploaded videos which many will surely love on his KZbin channel.
