Taemin is very close to both of his dance crews (Korean & Japanese). Both crews have been with him for years. When you watch his concerts, he always makes sure his dancers get time to shine and he usually introduces each one himself. Right after doing this dance practice, Taemin did a VLIVE talking about it. They had already practiced 3 or 4 times prior to recording the official DP. So, I'm sure they were all pretty tired....LOL. However, Taemin is well known for practicing up to 18 hours straight. I think you would be really surprised at just how much live singing both he and SHINee actually do during performances. There are certain points at which you know that solo Taemin isn't singing. That's because he won't fake it. He does not usually lip synch those parts. Instead he just keeps his mouth closed and dances. That's how we can tell. You have to remember that Taemin and SHINee were really the first group to integrate live singing with such intense choreos. They prepared and practiced for this by running together while singing ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/fGanpqeAfJ5mmas listen to their singing toward the end). During their SWC IV concert at Tokyo Dome, they performed four, high-octane songs -- all LIVE -- and lasted for just shy of 15 minutes. That's 15 minutes of live singing while performing intense choreos.....AND THEIR VOCALS ARE PRISTINE! It would be awesome if you reacted to this (SAFE to do so). They even continue singing live while having insane cake and water fights on stage.......?! Taemin will also conserve his energy during certain parts of long performances and only pour it on during crucial or intense parts of the choreo. When he does this it's very subtle and is usually only noticed by those of us who are serious or long-term Taemin fans. I hope you will react to both "IDEA" and its dance practice as well. It will blow your mind.

Taemin actually sings this entire song live, and sounds amazing doing it. Taemin learned early on how different it is to dance in stage clothes. He debuted as skinny jeans became a thing, lol. He's always complained about the weight of his shoes too. Not to mention, he might have to wear insoles to look taller. I think the last time he got to wear trainers on stage was like 2015 View era.

The first bit you mentioned where he “stumbled” wasn’t him losing his balance/stumbling…he was re-centering because he was slightly off-center. He’s really adept at making “mistakes” look intentional and marking the corrections as part of the choreo. SHINee has a performance of “Dream Girl” in which a mic stand breaks and the members work together to move the pieces out of the way and adjust the choreo for the missing stand-it’s actually shown to trainees as an example. They have multiple instances that unless you’re paying extremely close attention or it’s pointed out, you’d never know. During a live stage for SuperM, Taemin removed his full in-ears and exchanged them for new ones without missing a beat. Onew has removed his in-ears and sang perfectly without them on multiple occasions. They’re true professionals. Thank you so much for continuing to react to these guys…Taemin is who introduced me to KPOP. I avoided KPOP like the plague due to seeing the crazy toxic stans all over Twitter, but a friend posted a short clip of Taemin and Jonghyun that I didn’t even realize was KPOP and I immediately dropped everything to find out more. Thankfully, Shawol is the best fandom (in my opinion) and I couldn’t help but fall in love. Also, regarding singing live-he’s known to sing most of his sets live. SHINee is known for it because if there’s one thing they are NOT good at, it’s lip syncing. As trainees, they would go on runs and sing while running to build endurance and stamina. Their concerts are 3-3.5 hours long and they’re singing live whilst dancing insane choreo. You watched “Excuse Me Miss” live-that was part of a, if I remember correctly, three-hour+ concert. It’s known in the industry as the SHINee Standard.

Fun fact: You know why you see Kpop idols in their dance practices wearing a lot of layers, and often what we would think of as street clothes, instead of workout wear? One reason is because it helps build up endurance and to condition their bodies to be able to dance on stage with their stage outfits and not be affected. Why it looks so effortless on stage and like they hardly even exert themselves or sweat sometimes, is because their body has become used to being dressed in layers while working hard while wearing heavy boots, etc. It's kind of like if you spend a lot of time in a sauna, after a while your body gets used to the heat and you can endure more heat for longer periods of time. :D And SHINee are known for their fashion trends, they were one of the first groups to wear tight form-fitting outfits and skinny jeans that showed off their athletic bodies for male idols. Before SHINee the fashion style was baggy hip-hop styles with clothing that was 3 times too big. So tight skinny pants have become their signature look. And almost all of their stage outfits will be tight clothing, so they are used to dancing in those clothes. You should also keep in mind, that Kpop "dance practice" videos aren't really "practice" videos. Most of the time they are filmed in their dance studios and they are practicing the choreography, but a company won't release a group's dance practice footage until the group has perfected the dance and can perform it perfectly. You probably won't actually ever see them learning the choreography in their "dance practice" videos, and, most likely, you won't ever see any obvious mistakes or moves that aren't done almost perfectly, because their company won't release any of that footage. The point of "dance practice" videos is to show off the choreography and to highlight the dance skills of the members. Kpop groups and companies started releasing dance practice videos about 11 years ago, after they discovered that fans were copying the dances and really wanted to learn the choreography and SHINee was the first group to start the dance practice trend with their dance practice video for their song "Lucifer."

Taemin is such an incredible artist, he is my no.1 not just in kpop but the music industry in general, if you do live stages of him you will see that every performance is different..he never sits on a concept and just rolls with it, he manages to switch it up everytime...would love for you to get into more of his live performances.Also everybody compliments Taemin on his dancing ( rightfully so ) but this man has worked his butt off to improve his vocal range...just listen to some of his ballads, absolutely breathtaking.

In the second version, he dances with Koharu, the Japanese a choreographer who did the choreo for 3 of his songs (Move, Sayonara Hitori/Goodbye, and Flame of Love). She’s amazing. They look stunning together. There is also a version of Sayonara Hitori that they dance together for a dance contest that is really impressive. Yes, all of Taemin's dances tell a story. As he has said, he specifically designs his choreography to be a part of the story within the song and MV. So "Criminal" is supposed to be slightly creepy as well as sexy. He is literally being abused and asking you to please "destroy me more." So, what you are seeing in his "Criminal" dance is the fact that he is supposed to be held captive by his lover who is the criminal he is singing about in the song. That is why at the beginning you see his wrists are tied up. As part of the story, he has been held captive for so long that he is now suffering from stockholm syndrome, so he is no longer fighting the abuse and that is why you see him throw his bindings away. The criminal no longer has to tie him up to keep him there.The backup dancers represent the forces he is struggling against as he fights with his mind over whether to stay or go, etc. For "Criminal" Taemin had 3 or 4 different choreographers who collaborated to come up with this choreography and several of his backup dancers are also choreographers. You have to be amazing in order to keep up with Taemin, so his dancers are extra special. His choreographer for his song "Move" was also involved in "Criminal." Fun fact: Taemin's signature move is that Michael Jackson-like spine and you will see him do it multiple times in almost every dance he ever does. It's just become part of who he is. That is why he is so good at it. He has done it so often now that when he dances, he does it without even thinking. Taemin has always been known for saving his energy for where it counts the most -- for live performances and for filming MVs -- dance practices for him are literally dance practices, so he is just allowing himself to feel the dance and get in the groove. He is less worried about being spot on exact, and more about showing everyone the feel of the choreography and the story behind the dance. Believe it or not, what you just witnessed in this dance practice video isn't even Taemin at full power. If you really want to see what makes Taemin such a brilliant performer, check out some of his live performances. Taemin live is on a whole other level. That is where he truly shines. You will be even more impressed once you see him perform these songs and dances live. Taemin doesn't need to expend every ounce of his energy in the dance practice video, to show us how brillant of a dancer he is. With even 50% effort, Taemin is more magnificent than a lot of dancers when they dance full out. No one can pull off a Taemin dance exactly the way Taemin does it -- it's never as sharp or precise as he does it -- no matter how talented of a dancer you are. If you watch a lot of his live performances or see him in concert you will see how much of an expert he is. Seeing as he is also singing live almost 100% of the time while performing for 3+ hours, you will notice moments where he conserves his energy, only to release it full out during the most intense parts of the dance or performance. He has became known as the best in the industry for a reason. The more you see from Taemin, and SM artists in general, you might even start to recognize Taemin's backup dancers. Because there are only a select few people that can match his dance style and precision. So, when SM and Taemin find dancers that are exceptional, they hold on to them for as long as they can and they use them in almost everything. The dancers you see in Taemin's MVs are usually most of the same dancers he uses for his concerts and live performances. They are Taemin's dancers. And they are often also SM dancers, which means they are used as backup dancers in a lot of SM's other groups projects. Most of Taemin's dancers have also been Kai's dancers for his solo debut, as well as Super Junior's and TVXQ's dancers, for example. Taemin is SHINee, they are masters of live performances, they have absolutely no trouble singing live and dancing crazy heavy steps at the same time lol. Yeah, the shoes. He always dances in those kind of shoes and I thought I should get some shoes like that. Then I looked for them online and when I saw the price I thought, well, I guess not. You don't need to worry about him being in the army. Idols go right into 'The Band' which has a lot of different units besides the standard marching bands. They all get basic training, but then they go back to performing for the troops. Once a year the army puts on a free concert for the public. Covid has probably messed that up though.

To address the love singing and dancing comment I think you are right it is difficult, but for SM no because all artist train for a couples of months to years. And one of their methods are having their Artists run on treadmills while singing so they can build their lungs and sing while doing difficult dances. Like Shinee and Exo people are so surprised that they even say that they eat the CDs mostly Exo because they sing live while doing difficult dance movements. And yea they may have some audio in the back but mostly them sing live. Love your reactions again.

Kaspar was the main choreographer, although Ian Eastwood, Bailey Sok and I think maybe Koharu also had input. Every time I see Taemin doing a lot of MJ moves, Kaspar seems to be involved, I'm just sayin'. Criminal is definitely his most MJ choreography. Always watch SBINee's dp's! For Taemin,the dp for Move and Famous are also on another level...

I don't disagree that there is a fair bit of Thriller in Criminal, and I also won't dispute that Taemin has taken a lot of inspiration from MJ in general, but I would like to say that Taemin does a lot A LOT of Bob Fosse lines in his dancing (as did MJ) and he does Fosse lines that MJ never incorporated in his dancing - so whilst I think MJ is An Inspiration, I also think that Taemin, as someone who spends a lot of time in dance class and with choreographers, is dancing More Like Bob Fosse than he is Dancing Like MJ. "Want" is very clearly showcasing the Fosse of Taemin's dancing.
