What a genius Handel was to bring to your heart the suffering of Christ in such a beautiful but heartbreaking way. Goodness me, I have just read that Laura is no longer with us. Thank you for this wonderful performance. I am sure you have now seen Christ in person. God bless you.

Dear, Laura..the last few days I've been listening to every single 'He Was Despis-ed opera singer on youtube - many times over listening to the same artist, so, it's very hard for me to choose any favorite - as an artist, you know what I mean, we are all so unique, too unique to compare in any endeavor, there's treasure in eveyone - that said, I find your prayer-song here the most powerfully touching my heart and it opening to my prayers on youtube - I've been praying unceasingly, every second, actually, and your song-prayer has been a blessing I cant find adequate words for - and your facial expressions are as real as it gets - its real alright, and as someone who knows that Heaven is for real, I'll say bye for now and that I hope I see YOU in Heaven one day (i'm in no rush to get there, tho...too much work to do here now).. Yes, sad for those of US who will miss her presence, but, very truly, i say to you, it's a great JOY from where i sit, that she is now at her real home, Heaven! And while i'm awaiting to meet Jesus and my beloveds, and still enduring being here - for truly, this world(?) i'm SO DONE with it, yet, i do endure it in agony for the great evil in it and being heavily persecuted for so many years now, and so, i continue to aim to testify on His behalf, encouraging others as i go along each day, wherever i may be as i go about ....yup, i can hardly wait to be gone from here, and only pray always, that, Jesus USES ME while i endure it, still. thank you for listening to a poor old woman!! 💖😉💖

I really love how Ms. McAlpine performed this piece. It means so much to see the emotion on her face as she sings. I don't know how she does it. I particularly like the frustration and perhaps anger she expresses during the "He hid not his face" section which then fades away again in the reflection of His sacrifice for us. Perhaps we can relate with the frustration we feel in this mortal imperfect experience where our Savior continues to be ignored and even mocked, yet when we remember Him and His life our own trials take perspective in view the love He offers.

A perfectly mastered score. That is why she was able to fully surrender her beautiful voice to the feelings for the Savior's suffering. Great hope, but too soon her beautiful eyes went out and her great voice died.

Poor A-Bra-Ham, not Kosher at all for the Victorians. Although somewhere I heard the royal line is of David, the same as Jesus. Maybe it was an Overpopulation problem. David had many wives and children about 300, wives I believe, as did his son Soloman, the wisest man in the World according to the story.
