His English pronunciation isn't always accurate though - unless it's just for the purposes of the style of this sort of music (I'm not a big fan of opera, so I wouldn't know). Nevertheless, an amazing performer with an amazing voice!

@@martinledermann1862 Yes it is the correct style of pronunciation music of this period and particularly for this piece. The only word he doesn't get quite correct is Shame but I doubt I could pronounce much of Polish very correctly even with practice as it is quite removed from the mouth formations of English. I speak 5 languages but would not want to take on Polish :-)

The conductor must know that the speed by which he set the music goes contrary to the meaning of the words, sorrowful requires a slower tempo, with more empathy; no fault of the countertenor. I have not found a version to match the intensity both musically and vocally; of Kathleen Ferrier with the orchestra conducted by Adrien Boult

Not only has he the most wonderful, expressive voice but his diction is impeccable. This is the precise way of pronunciation you would hear from classical actors many, many decades ago but which modern actors cannot manage, no matter how hard they try. As far as I know, he grew up in Poland and did all his musical training there, before he rose to prominence by filling in for a sick colleague during a radio concert at Aix-en-Provence in 2017. Since then he has been working hard to harness all the potential of his amazing voice and talent.

It's easy to be an armchair critic and not have to do what you criticise. Rather like the sad, pretentious people who take the score to an opera performance and go tut tut over what they perceive to be a wrong note. They forget that every performance is unique. The worst I have seen on here is someone who said that a recording was a semi tone lower than the original performance in 1730. What nonsense. I say just enjoy a great performance now.
