@@lisagriffith5000 This song was the commercial breakthrough that opened up the rap scene for the white suburban audience that now supports the entirety of its artists. Black people aren't filling these artists pockets, white kids are ... they are buying the tickets, merch and albums/streams. Unfortunately, they are the ones also killing it by supporting the mainstream garbage that the industry "Rappers" are shoveling now. c hild of the 70s here. THis song changed my life. Every night, i'd practice the dance moves, replaying it on VHS. Then, i went to nerd college before medical school and.... I was the only "nerd" that could dance. Got rushed by 3 fraternities in 2 hours after the first dance. I became crazy popular for a freshman and was the only freshmen they allowed to move into the fraternity. At the nerd school, when this song came on it, it was mainly all girls on the dance floor.....and me. It moved me out of my shy shell and I got my first girlfriend. TO this day, my fraternity brothers are my closest, most loyal, oldest, friends. I got to meet him just before the covid lockdown at a small concert here in town. It was a personal thrill and full circle for the uncool middle-aged man i've turned into.

Vanilla Ice did have Ninja Rap from the Movie Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Cool as Ice, and Rolling in my 5.0 and three hit movies, but his biggest contribution to Hip-Hop by way of this track actually through the royalitys from Suge Knight which funded and founded Death Row Records, which lead to signing Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg and 2Pac. His hits may not of been as long as others but make no mistake he is a Hip Hop Icon. BTW he does have recent minor hits including My Way in 2012, and even more recently collaborating with Rick Ross and another track with Kodak Black.

Robert Van Winkle, better known by his stage name Vanilla Ice, wrote "Ice Ice Baby" in 1983 at the age of 16, basing its lyrics upon his experiences in South Florida. The lyrics describe a shooting and Van Winkle's rhyming skills.

Vanilla ice was one of the first to sample old records. Queen filed a lawsuit against him but today rappers sample old records all of the time. He was ahead of his time and honestly I don’t think the rap industry knew how to handle Vanilla Ice. Wish he was treated better. He was great!

I was a kid when this came out, admittedly everybody thought this s*** slapped when it first dropped, and Vanilla Ice went on to make millions of dollars being in that movie and s***, and then the rug got yanked from under him when he got caught in some lies etc. And then everybody started clowning him, but dude had already made a ton of money by then. Want to see something funny? Check out Jim Carrey when he was on "In Living Color" impersonating Vanilla Ice 😂

This is just his most known hit. He actually has quite a few songs that have charted. My favorite will always be Ninja Rap. Probably because I'm a Ninja Turtles fan and that song brings back all the nostalgia of watch the old Ninja Turtles movies when I was a kid.

Anyone around 40-45 maybe even up to 50 tells you they wasnt bumping this shit is lying. I was about 13 or so and used to bump the shit out of this. 44 now and the memories come rushing back when I hear it. Anyone else remember when Jim Carrey did a Vanilla Ice parody on In Living Color? God I miss the 90s. Everything was good!

He never got the chance he deserved. He was and still is talented. He could sing, dance, had the swag and the looks and he could write great lyrics in my opinion. He wrote this song when he was 16. Rap owes him a thank you for taking rap off the streets and to the world stage. He doesn’t get the credit he deserves. I loved this song and his movie Cool As Ice, it was funny, had good music, got to see him dance and sing plus it had some romance. ❤

Thank you Matt for bringing up he sampled Under Pressure. Now, I would never take away from Vanilla Ice. It was amazing in that time. We all sang it every day. Almost no one knew it was a sample from Queen. One of my favorite bands.

Ice said that but Queens spokesperson clarified that it was not true. Don’t get me wrong, I like the song and that famous bassline is what made it catchy. I have no respect for the artist to steal, deny, & lie in public saying he owned it. That is why he tanked.

That trouble wasn't his downfall though. I would say Suge threatened to throw him off the 15th-floor balcony to steal his song rights to this song is the reason he ran away from music for a few decades.

This was his biggest hit. But he had also a couple other songs that were really good and successfull. (Play that funky music, Rollin in my 5.0, Cool as ice). And if you have time to spare watch his movie from the early 90s ( Cool As Ice)

My favorite of his was It's a Party. Even the opening line of that song.. "Sparkling, like a tower inferno, you wanna learn my song this ain't no journal." (The Towering Inferno was a 70's film about a skyscraper on fire) Then in Play That Funky Music he rhymes supercalifragilisticexpialidocious LOL. People like to pretend they never listened to him back then, but they damn well know they did. Everyone during that time did. This album was the first one I had seen someone bought on CD at school.
