I think from what I’ve seen is that he had to mature and live by himself from a young age. What he has achieved, in my opinion, is solely his own talent, work, dedication and goal setting and achieving in spite of life obstacles, critique, rumours. He said early on that he wants to be the best and here we all are watching him continue his successful pass at the age which he calls just a number. Truly remarkable. We have astronauts, scientists, doctors, professors who have achieved and are achieving a lot and making wonders but the media don’t follow their every step and don’t criticise their every emotion or rebellious character. I bet it’s not easy to live in a spotlight when you wish to have some privacy or want to do something dumb. I take him serious also as a person. All the philanthropy work, donations, family and secret stuff he knows only himself. Best of luck and good health to him and all of us. Thank you, gentlemen, for your opinions. I don't know if you remember the exact circumstances, but United were trying to get Ronaldinho to come to Old Trafford. He declined and went to Barcelona instead, so at the time, Ronaldo was like a disappointing consolation prize. On top of this, he played a stormer in is debut and then did little else, other than perform useless stepovers that slowed United's game down. He had a lot to live up to and at first, he didn't look capable of living up to those expectations. You're right, it shows what knuckling down and working hard can do for you.

He always said he wanted to win something with Portugal, long before that rivalry started, even in his Sporting days he used to mention it. He wanted to give us portuguese people something; silverware that eluded us for years on end. Maybe because of his father, he knew how much it would mean to him seeing his son win a trophy with Portugal. I'll always remember how much he cried in 2004 and everyone made fun of him. Robben may have looked better because he was playing in a better team those first 2 seasons at Chelsea before ManUtd went back to being the best team in England. Robben is 1 year older and was in a better team because of Abramovic a $ team of mainly players at their peak while ManUtd were actually going through transition and it wasn't much of an achievement being better than Cristiano before the 2006/07 season. Tolerating Ronaldo? Erratic? WHO ARE YOU? In his first season at Utd CR7 won the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year! God knows what's that but I doubt any of you English gentlemen won that let alone in your first year as a 18 year old in a foreign country speaking 0 words of a foreign language! I hope not all Utd fans are like these big mouths
@avikellerman45393 жыл бұрын
Neville is a melt. Ronaldo was taken to the Euros as the young "erratic" player Gary claims he was. And starred alongside players like Figo, Deco and Rui Costa. Neville was literally the worst, and least skilled starter/regular at Manchester United during the Sir Alex era. And I sincerely believe that. He stood out like a sore thumb around the Utd players because they were ALL miles better than him, to the point I questioned what he was doing in that team and what Sir Alex saw in him. Maybe he was a good professional and example to the other player during training and what not but on the actual pitch I fail to see what he did well. He wasn't an elite defender for a full back, not even close. And going forward he was even worse. Ronaldo was literally the talk of the football world during his first season at United and one of if not THE highest rated prospect in world football. But apparently to Neville that was "erratic".
@ARIYBALL3 жыл бұрын
@borray s what weird logic is that! why should anyone ask utd coaching stuff when HEAD of coaching stuff chose CR7 himself! NO ONE counts that as a phase because All those things you said clearly indicate those were his developing years and despite that CR7 scored 6,9,12 goals in his first 3 seasons at Man Utd! when most of the players enjoy 2nd team football or play football on loan somewhere else! Its Utd's fault to put him in the first team straight away and tbh who are you to doubt when your gaffer has utmost trust on this new kid and giving him 1st team from the word go! "Cristiano Ronaldo’s first United game as a substitute in the season opener against Bolton [Wanderers] was undoubtedly the most exciting debut performance I’ve ever seen." - George Best
@davidlean10603 жыл бұрын
I clearly remember him arriving at United and at the time, he was a consolation prize given that Ferguson was looking to bring Ronaldinho to Old Trafford. I can remember even watching him play and calling him a hyped up 'false prophet'. He wasn't all that great the first couple of years at United.
@ARIYBALL3 жыл бұрын
@@avikellerman4539 exactly tbh who counts developing years of a player as a phase? hes counting them because CR7 came really early to a big club like Man Utd but if he was still playing at Lisbon he would never count them! CR7 was promoted to senior side in 2003 and in the same season he came to Man Utd where he was playing first team premier league football from the word go! we are fortunate he didn't crumble under that much pressure and expectation! only a failure calls other as failures! Utd legends like Rio, Scholes, Giggs never said what Neville saying here because they knew what a special player Utd Ronaldo was!
@davidlean10603 жыл бұрын
@borray s Which is why it was such a disappointment when he left for Madrid. By then he was really hitting the heights and everyone knew it. What's more, Ronaldinho, to quote Eamon Dunphy (I think) 'went to the party after winning the Champions' League with Barcelona and never came back!', so it really was United's gain in the end. It's not often you can remember exactly where you were when you saw a goal being scored. I don't mean you get a seperate annex and an extra bump in your skull because that's where the memory bit sticks out!! But read up about London cabbies. In the 80's, a london cabbie won Mastermind, the British quiz show for general knowledge boffins. Everyone was surprised and in some cases, rather snooty that a 'common' man like a taxi driver had won such a big prize. Then research was done and it was discovered London cabbies, who have to train for 4 or more years and learn EVERY street in London, to the extent they have a map of the city in their heads possess a larger hippocampus than people from other professions. It was no wonder a cabbie won a tv quiz based on general knowledge, the dude had a bigger memory centre than an average Joe in the street.
