You could use that hillside by your house to make a platform where the dwellers can't reach you. If you use trap doors and make it a few blocks away from the groundlevel your house is standing on, you might have a safe spot.

calvin added the security mod to make reinforced glass to stop the man from the fog from breaking it and able to see out of it, you could do that for your base if you wanted it to look nice with some safety
