This is what addiction does. I can relate to it. Not the MLB player part obviously but the addiction part

I have been there and done both the drugs and the alcohol, heavily. I am thankful that there is a God in heaven that loves me and delivered me from both. Clean since the last day of June 1990. Now 69 years old and doing very well. Praise the Lord !!!

During his play years with the Angels, I was around Josh and making comment on sports channels. It was clear the guy was troubled and screwed up. He is one of several players that I personally knew who ended a promising career due to substance abuse. During my early play years, my team mate was given an outrageous bonus signing with the Dodgers. He was to play AAA for one year then move up to the Bigs. He never made it past the Salt Lake City Bee's. He was blown away on drugs and blew most of the money. The Dodgers released him and sued him for damages (His bonus money). He disappeared and I haven't heard from him in over 50 years. I knew Bobby Bonds and George Foster. Both were good friends. Bobby was an alcoholic and George did drugs. Bobby died young. The Giants traded George because of substance abuse. He cleaned up his act and had a couple of killer years with the Reds. We can go on and on with this. Drugs and alcohol abuse among top athletes isn't uncommon. Many are coddled at a young age because they are superior to most other kids. They are destined for greatness. Some can't handle their fame, the money, the women trying to capture them, the media, pressure to perform, etc. When faced with reality of life, they often can't handle it because others have protected them and kissed their ass for many years. There are few people like Juan Soto and Mike Trout who are great guys and can handle the pressure. I don't know what Josh is doing these days but I wish him and his family well. I think his wife divorced him. I'm not sure. I hope not.

Growing up as an astros&rangers fan, god I loved Hamilton so much. Collected his cards, made sure to watch/listen to all of his at bats it felt like. Hell I even watched him in 2015 when he was in AAA with the Round Rock Express (I lived 5 mins away from the stadium). Was devastated when he went to LA, and even moreso watch his career decline as he struggled. What could've been.

LA is probably the worst place for an addict with money.

Josh Hamilton was a generational talent who proved you can hit rock bottom and rise to the top only to crash even harder. His downfall wasn’t just injuries; it was a lack of accountability. How many second chances does it take before we stop calling it 'unfortunate' and start calling it self-inflicted?
