Injuries. That's the summary, like almost ALL other stories like this.

You'd think that winning the Cy Young twice.. would be a guaranteed spot in the hall of fame..,but apparently that's not the case..

If he was great, then Johan Santana was a beast. He had about four great years, which was great, but Johan had like five to six great years and was not even considered for more than one hall of fame ballot. Johan Santana never pitched for a great team, that was the big difference. Tim Lincecum and Johan Santana were pretty much comparable pitchers, both of them won two cy young awards. Tim Lincecum reminds me of Corey Kluber, there were both great pitchers, but then after a couple of seasons there were not the same anymore.

He didn't disappear; he was just not the same anymore. If you go out there every five to six days pitching at that velocity your arm is not going to last that much.

if you'll notice, after his back injury, his pitches miss high. back injuries compromise your follow through. your lead foot lands, you wince in pain, and the ball sails high. total stud and warror, doing his best to perform with an injured back.

Humans just aren't built to do that for that long a time without break down, I bet the majority with the talent and skill never make it because of their bodies not being able to keep up, but certain guys like him can keep it up just for a limited exceptional time and still craft quite the legacy as Tim here for sure did and even still past his short peak prime put up great numbers in the end overall. But dudes who can do that and also not break down by the time there 30 and have both talent strength and longevity are like finding super unicorns like Randy Johnson for example as opposed to unicorn like Tim, if Tim had his longevity his numbers would been superhuman for like 8 years instead of "only" 3.

I remember being around 4 years old when my parents brought me to "Twins Fest" and while i was there among many other things David Ortiz got on a knee and underhanded a couple balls to me. Truly a great guy, hated to see him leave but always wanted him to win.
