Dystopian to the max. One of the most haunting songs ever. This song never fails to give me chills down my spine.

Loved this song when it came out! Love it when I first heard it on the radio...... and it did give my generation speculation of the future.

There was two singers,, I read that one of them would have dreams and the next day he would write it down and that's how he came up with that song.. Listen to the song very carefully,,, And notice what's going on today..👍👍👍

Imagine you are a young teenager and this song, The Viet Nam Song, For What It's Worth and Eve Of Destruction are playing on the radio. Makes you look forward to the future. You have done all those songs. Cool

This song blew our minds when it came out. I know I suggested it over a year ago. Glad to see it done. GREAT CHOICE.

Had this 45 as a kid... handed down to me from my parents. It always sent a chill down my back. And now... to think it's all coming true. This video that goes along with this brilliant song was added recently and does it no favors. You're better off listening with your eyes closed and letting your imagination take over. Subscribed.

Here's a OHW I haven't heard since 1977. This song played over the radio in my Consumer Ed class and constantly brought me into my science fiction books. Maybe that's why I only got a D. 🙂

This song was released during the peak of the Vietnam War. The Environmental Protection Agency was formed in December 1970. At the time, there were almost no controls on anything that polluted the air, soil, and waterways, and there was no recycling, except for returnable glass soda bottles. The Clean Water Act was instituted in 1972. A very weak Clean Air Act was signed into law in 1963, but had no teeth to do anything significant. Imagine this song in that context and it’ll make more sense.

Thank you for this! Way back when I was an eight-year-old boy obsessed with science fiction, this song blew my mind, it was for a while the coolest song on Earth. Zager and Evans get called "one hit wonders" but I bought the album and enjoyed other songs on it. The song "Taxi Man" had a touch of social commentary, "Fred" was darkly comical, and they had a rather mysterious but pleasant love song named "Cary Lynn Javes." For me the verse about 9595 hits hardest -- yes, people are more aware of the Earth than they used to be, but will it be enough? Not just tigers but elephants and rhinoceroses could still die out fairly soon. Thanks for the shout out to WALL-E. If you're interested in movies, two leap to mind. Everyone remembers George Lucas for giving us Star Wars, but before that he came out with a smaller movie called THX 1138, which echoes a lot of this song's vision. An excellent movie about people getting their lives determined at birth because of their DNA is Gattaca. Yeah, I know, weird titles -- THX 1138, Gattaca -- but they are worth looking up.

Thanks for listening. The dates were arbitrary. But they do kind of rhyme. When the song first came out many people were creeped. Yet despite it being much of the Technologies we have today, we knew it was coming because it was currently being worked on. Consider corporations do not always introduce what they discover. And many times by the time it makes it into production they're already on to the next. But you won't see it till they recoup their previous investment. 🤠🐂

Have heard this song many times....I graduated HS in 1964......have seen so many of these come to pass already. AI is going to blow everything into the next phase of won't need arms and legs from disuse. We need yhe pill so we will stay anesthetized to our situation. Scary shit....and we are on the precipice of seeing the next phase of living with AI

The question remains, is mankind at fault? How could we have known a million years ago when our brains were barely formed, what would cause damage to the Earth, and ourselves on the whole? By the time we were more advanced and more populated, we were still in the dark about the hazards we posed by our consumption. Then it was too late, because we had to do what we could with the limited technology we had in order to survive. And survival also drove us to compete, and wars.
