Thats interesting. Could you please explain more. If someone has cancer, the employer is strapped with paying all the employees bills until he gets better? Something doesn't seem right. In the US, most large companies offers full time employees 4-5 weeks vacation and about one week of sick days. Federal jobs will let employees save their paid sick days so they can accumulate, sometimes adding up to one year's salary.

And don't forget that in the UK there are no medical bills to pay. We all pay into the National Health Service as part of our taxes, then all medical treatment is free.

You're comparing apples and oranges. We have almost 330 million people in the U.S. vs. 60 million in Italy. Texas and California have a combined population of 70 million people alone. We also get to keep more of our income, while Italy takes up to 48% of people's income for taxes. So your "free" medical care isn't really free.

I love Italy! Yes, my friend who lives in Lanuvio broke his toe, and even though he just signed a "contract" with his employer, they paid for a month off so he could heal. I also love the FREE cabins available to hikers or hunters in many places. Here I pay $30 a night to camp on a patch of grass close to other people. I can't wait to visit Italy in the spring.

Couldnt believe what i just heard....he had been sick for 12 weeks with no pay check....what the hell?...he didnt ask for it...poor guy...he doesnt have anywhere to go for his age...thats the reason why he still stick with the company until he retires...he is such a loveable person...could hear his voice....is the staff collect some money and become his secret santa since they find out that he didnt get paid during his stay in hospital?....he deserved it...
