I don’t really understand why there’s a demand for Big Finish animation when the interest in Classic Who animation isn’t really that profitable
@TheatreJosh246014 жыл бұрын
Big Finish stories are made with a modern production team and with modern sensibilities about what we expect from Doctor Who, and, most importantly, a modern sense of pacing. I love the Big Finish First Doctor Adventures, for example, but every actual Hartnell serial I've watched is painfully slow. As Stu implies, a lot of classic Who really could have used another run through the editing team, but they were often actively trying to artificially extend the runtime.
@andrewlaporte54774 жыл бұрын
In my mind profit and demand are two different things. Patrons were basically the consumers and demand for arts projects in Renaissance culture, but that doesn't mean that the peasants didn't want their own cistine chapel--they just lacked the means. I bet there's some millionaire out there ready to put down a million pounds to see a project finished (like George Harrison for Life of Brian), but they'd probably be hard to find!

@@iain9757 Sorry, in retrospect, I forgot to actually land my point. I was saying that, while the lost episode animations might not be particularly profitable or successful, Big Finish animations might very well be incredibly successful, as many of the stories would likely have greater mass appeal. I'm not saying that the new Big Finish stories are necessarily better than the classic lost episodes, but that they're written by professional lifelong fans for a modern audience of lifelong fans.

The common complaint of this story being too long and should have been a 4 parter is shared with the writers. Because it was originally written as a 4 part story idea that was then made by the script editors request to become a 6 parter. It was also originally for the 1st Doctor Ben and Polly in a shopwhich was then changed to be set in an airport have the 2nd Doctor, add Jamie and add an extra two episodes.

I recently got the faceless ones and the macra terror, watched them a week apart and... I don't really know what to say. They were decent. I liked them but that's about that. I feel kind of dead now considering I was genuinely excited to watch the faceless ones in its entirety and now I have the episode. I watched it and it was fun but I kinda wished there was a bit more because the next episode is the evil of the daleks and is missing... but guess what they decided to skip... yeah cool I want to experience all of the missing animated episodes and making a dalek one will probably be difficult considering that licensing crap plus the missing dalek episodes are... shall we say the serials with not the shortest episode counts. I'd argue that it'd be nice to have the option to watch the surviving episodes alongside the animated reconstructions, instead of just one or the other. If The Invasion, The Moonbase, The Tenth Planet and The Reign of Terror did it, then why can't we have the option with the recent releases that have surviving episodes?

As a massive big finish fan, I dont. the stories were written and made specifucally for the audio medium, so there is no point in giving them animations, unlike the missing episodes which were meant to have visuals to go along with them and loose some, or in some cases a lot, of their impact without them. Plus Plenty of audio stories would have to be massively rewritten due to things that work in an audio but not when visuals are present (exposition would need to be changed drastically for example) and there are a few stories which would straight up not be possible in a visual medium (scherzo and natural history of fear come to mind). To put simply, theres nothing wrong with the audios as they are and i dont think its worth all the time it would take to rework them into an animation when only a few stories would even translate well to animation anyway.

Because fans will be outraged if it’s not included. It doesn’t cost any extra to include both versions. Plus for stories that have existing episodes will be in 4:3 in black and white to match the existing episodes and the colour version will be in 16:9 so it makes sense to include both

@carealoo744 Жыл бұрын
@@EditedAF987 Why? It's like changing the volume.
@EditedAF987 Жыл бұрын
@@carealoo744 changing the volume is as simple as pressing a button on the remote. TV settings require you to get up off the sofa and manually fiddle with a bunch of buttons on the screen itself. This is not something tv watchers do daily, like pressing the volume button, so it will initially feel like a more complex process. Viewers are also likely accustomed to their default settings, meaning if they change it, there’s a risk they’ll forget the initial settings, which causes further hassle. The average person is not going to go through all that for the sake of Doctor Who and the Faceless Ones.
@carealoo744 Жыл бұрын
@@EditedAF987 Get up off the couch? You literally just press the settings button on your remote and go down to color and then there's a dial there for everyone's convenience. Since changing the color isn't something most people do it requires pressing 3 buttons instead of 1, but hey- I guess a whole extra disc is worth the hassle of an extra 10 seconds and zero movement.
