Well done Martha, my husband still rides my bike down difficult (to me) sections of off road trails, and I've been riding for 15 years now. You have a very supportive and understanding partner in Mitch , so you will continue building your skill level. Confidence is key, but mine disappears for no apparent reason, and then returns for no apparent reason. And bike fitness comes with time on the bike.

Oh, Martha! My heart was hurting for you. I've been in situations in which i didn't feel safe, but had no choice but to push on in order to get out of them. It sucks, and i could feel your fear, exhaustion, and frustration. Be proud of yourself, though! You made it and even went on to drive the rest of the day. I'm relieved you two have decided to stay off the TET through Portugal. It'll be safer and you'll be in warm weather sooner. Mitch, you're a great support! You're a good man! 😊Lauren😊

I’ve been following the videos since Martha started riding and tbh from an outsiders point of view I thinking what she’s achieved in such a short time is nothing short of amazing. I do think however that whats she’s done is both physically and mentally exhausting and eventually if not handled properly it will take its toll. A proper break would be the sensible way to go about what you’re doing. Exhaustion will spoil your experience together, could spoil the whole idea of travelling by bike in the future. Sometimes in life you have to stop and take stock of where you’re at and give yourself a time out. Rome wasn’t built in a day as it were, speculate to accumulate (a exciting biking future) and all those other sayings that fit. You’re both young and fit and everything doesn’t have to all be done now. Enjoy your trip but don’t spoil it by pushing it too hard 👍

It certainly will not detract from the adventure to be on some tarmac for a while. As they say a change is as good as a rest. When you consider you have less than a years experience riding motorbikes, you should be giving yourself a huge pat on the back for what you have achieved so far. Although I have a fair few years riding under my belt on the road, my off road experience probably amounts to an hour and I crashed once too, so what you are achieving at the moment I could struggle on. Don’t let low confidence keep you back, stick with it and you will get better and better. Give yourself time to rest your body by enjoying the roads too, after all it is a dual sport bike.

I think if you do not show them at the border you should be fine...
@thimbur35439 күн бұрын
@@pavolklepac935 I guess that depends on if you're willing to take a risk. From what I've read they will confiscate it if they find it and the last video I watched of a m'cyclist entering Morocco she (Evora) was searched at customs. Luckily she'd left hers with someone in Europe before boarding the ferry. I believe there's also a risk of quite a large fine if caught with one.
@Soggy-boots-V110 күн бұрын
That guy was just trying to stop you getting shot, lots of accidents in Europe due to hunters and the odd passer by getting shot. They would probably be hunting wild boar at this time of year. Hi Martha you need a rest, unless you're used to riding consecutive days over a decent period your stamina is going to run out and you don't get time to recover. That's when accidents happen and you stop enjoying it. Well done so far and good luck.

That was a group of Hunters that were starting their Hunt. So they had to be Careful and Warn Everyone who passes by that there was a Hunt going on. Those are legal hunts made by groups of hunters and usually involve a Large area. So All the safety procedures are actually required. He was trying to warn you that there was a Hunt Starting and it would be better to choose another way. (Not that you would Ever be at risk but just in case ). Once you told him you had to go to the house you just ruined half an hour of hunt preparation 😀 We could not see this in the video but he was Surely phoning the rest of the group to Hold any activity and warn everyone of your presence. This is Standard procedure. Safety First. Not that passing vehicles would have any Risk but Hunters do take all possible care and if they can divert anyone passing by to another route so be it.
@KasperiVonSchrowe11 күн бұрын
About hunting... they were probably after deer as you said. They can be hunted with shotguns using slug rounds instead of shots. There were probably a gallery of hunters in bushes and when the guy warned them with radio, you were good to go. But they didn't like it, their hunt was interrupted and possibly even ruined. I've done the same thing by mountain biking.

Don’t write off Martha’s problems to being “in her head”. She definitely looks and sounds genuinely physically spent. If your body isn’t able to actively relax and accept the bike when it needs and also quickly be able to actively have inputs into the bike even simple obstacles like bends, bumps and ruts become too much. You become dead weight on the bike vs riding it. Personally I’d have a 2:1 work rest cycle with a whole day off riding out of every three days or reduce time on the bike each day. As she progresses in skill and physicality the mindset will improve as well and less rest is needed. I’d love to see you guys attend a basic and intermediate Adv riding school when you get back to the UK or even during a trip. I know you did the one in the UK but it seemed more Enduro/speed focused than slow steady technical skills.

As a sports physiologist, I'd say you, Martha, are just deeply tired. You've pushed yourself to your bodies and spirit's limit, and it needs some easy time. You've pushed your confidence and done and great job, but it needs some easy days to recover and to "remember how good it feels" and to realize how much skill and strength you've gained. Remember, that strength comes DURING rest- it is forced during hard effort, but the bodies rebuilding is when you actually get stronger, more able.

...I'll 'fess I didn't watch all your vid but your title screen caught my eye and I know you are on a PUBLIC access road (track) but Portuguese hunters think they own sole rights to it on Thursdays an Sundays and Public Holidays during hunting season. But they DON'T. It's public access.... They don't want you scaring off the game which is anything from a blackbird to wild boar.....But they usually get nothing anyway because, where I am, they're too drunk and noisy, and start shooting street signs and throwing pine cones in the air for a laugh and practice.....
