you doing all this after only 8 months is really impressive. His tips and experience and patients is so nice to have too! you're both doing great. I know you spoke about 1st gear stuff to ease on the clutch and yes it can be super helpful but it can also place in high rev moments (like with the hair pin around the 20:38 mark) sometimes getting on the pegs and 2nd gear just eases it out calmer to "tractor" yourself up the hill. but honestly you're doing great! both of you, definitely don't be to hard on yourself! fear does a lot to a person while riding. even experienced riders love having a buddy with experience guide us through paths even if we know how too. being a team and riding as a group makes it more fun

Martha, you are doing a great job. Don't put yourself down. You have not been riding that long, on a heavy bike with equipment on it. Mitch is giving good advice. Just relax, it is not a race, look where you want the bike to go, not the ruts that scare you. You will get it, it is practice.

Been following your channel for this trip and I'm blown away by you both. If anything Martha is showing just how tough she is, most people with 8 months in the saddle would have just headed for the nearest paved road and called it a day. Hats off to Mitch for being so supportive and helping Marth build her confidence and skills. This is better than any marriage counseling and raising kids with both of your determinations would be a breeze when the time comes. Morocco here we come

Hey Martha, As everyone else is saying, you are doing a great job for someone who has only just started to ride off road. Coming from someone who has only started riding off road in the 12 months, being relaxed is definitely the key to riding at the next level. Also, trusting that the bike will do exactly what you want it to do. The way in which all bikes are engineered, when you’re travelling with a bit more speed, the bike wants to stay upright and keep moving forward. Once this clicks for you, your skill level will get better and better. Great couple, great video’s, keep on being you 😊

Martha, there is no shame in knowing your limits. The idea of riding your bike is to have enjoyment. Another observation that may help on a difficult uphill. When you stopped and Mitch said it was because you panicked, you were actually slipping your clutch but reving high at the same time. I think if you had kept the clutch engaged you would have maintained momentum. Martha, you have nothing to be ashamed of. You are pushing yourself way beyond your comfort zone. Reign it in. Keep to easier stuff. Get your enjoyment back. There is no sin in letting Mitch do some tough routes without you! He is very supportive. He will understand.

Hi guys just a bit of advice for marth. I used to ride motocross and for tight corners stay seated with the leg out do guide you round the corner. Low center of gravity. Motocross riders only stand up for jumps the occasional butt's. Don't be scared of putting your leg out round corners for balance.

The number 1 tip for Martha I would giver is to not use the clutch that much. Just keep the bike in 1st or 2nd gear. Because if she use the clutch and have a moment, she has the intendencies to pull the clutch in. Lose momentum and drive, and she falls (with drive the bike want to go foreward (moment of inertia), and not fall). So only control the speed with the throttle in the medium technical parts.

Confidence and momentum, are your friends. As you’ve already said “Your bloody doing it!”

I've been wondering why Martha uses so much the second gear and almost wanted to comment it at some point because I felt so sorry for the clutch. :D I guess many situations would be much easier to handle with the first gear when it gets more technical. But good to see that you realized it eventually. Keep up the good work, have been watching all the episodes! 👍

You're not panicking Martha, you're task saaturated. you've been only riding for 6 months and as such, a lot of stuff you need to do on the bike, is still stuff you need to think about. As you gain more and more experience, you'll automate stuff and become more proficient at offroad riding. You'll shed tasks to be done subconciously instead of needing brain capacity to do them. Try to empty your mind the next time you face a more difficult part of terrain, don't mind the camera, mitch, the motor or anything else.

That was a dive any centre forward would be proud of😅 But seriously riding off road is a long and winding road…can’t be learned overnight as there are so many different scenarios only experience can cover. But as you know momentum is King and Queen , but that momentum doesn’t always have to be fast . Riding standing up as much as possible will increase your confidence . Used to own the 300 rally …good bike but remember it’s still 152kg plus bags and it’s a tallish bike in stock form . Have you lowered the bike ? Maybe do that …most top riders off road can touch the ground easily …as they are generally tall dudes .
@levt2156Ай бұрын
I don't see you whining at all, Martha! Be kind to yourself and savor how accomplished you've become in such a short time. Try to keep in mind that you're still learning and not all trails are created equal. Some will be above your current skill level, and you should expect that. For now, what Mitch tells you should be your focus, which is to use 1st gear, throttle through, and most importantly, look where you want to go, not at the possible dangers between you and your objective. It seems like you look at the ground just in front of your wheel a lot, and that tends to be when you lose confidence and/or drop your bike. While you need to be mindful of the best line and avoiding ruts, it's just as important to set your visual cues further ahead. I think these trails are becoming more difficult for you right now because you're learning so much without having the time to digest what you're learning. You need confidence builder's between this rough trail and that one. Confidence builders are smooth rides on paved surfaces. You can then enjoy the sights and riding for the joy of riding. Mitch, you're a star in how you've been teaching Martha and how patient you are as a coach. You've really helped Martha climb ahead of the curve. Now it's up to Martha to set the pace of your travels and pick routes she needs to ride on to rebuild her confidence. Okay, enough of being a mother hen! I wish you both a safe and very merry Christmas. Lauren😊

Martha, I'm a motorcycle rider as well, an international rider as well, and the trails you were riding in this episode were beyond "expert." I know there are people that think the best way to learn to ride off road is to ride the most difficult off roading there is, but I'm not in that camp. I absolutely believe in pushing yourself but I don't believe in putting yourself in danger or setting yourself up for failure. The more you ride the better rider you will be - but not by doing such extremely difficult trails so early on. I hope your partner will give you a break and take you on trails that will actually build your skills and allow you to enjoy the ride, not frustrate you like this, not make you feel "whiney". You aren't at all whiney. Motorcycle travel is so wonderful - but it shouldn't make you feel like a failure or so overwhelmed like this. You have every right to say, "I'm not ready for this" when faced with a trail so far out of your comfort zone. That doesn't make you weak or a bad rider - it makes you smart and wanting to learn without wrecking your bike and yourself. I crashed on switchbacks in Canyonlands National Park in the USA and had a concussion - it's many minutes of my life I'll never get back. I'm lucky to be alive. And while I continue to push myself, continue to ride thousands of miles every year, I'm not ashamed to sometimes say, "No, I'm not doing that" about a route." Good luck.

If she says it's 5 days, but people do it in 7 for more comfort/ enjoyment... I'm at the point in my old age, I will just assume she is right and would ask her "How many days do YOU want to do it in?" It's just easier, I find, to assume the woman is correct... (for many reasons!)
