I am an RN. When my father was on hospice and literally dying, as I got the call from the hospice nurse telling me he only had a few hours. I went to my boss and told him I had to leave. His words exactly, “If you walk out that door, you will be fired”. I turned around and walked back to the break room and then the nurses station gathering my belongings. I clocked out, went to his office and tossed my badge on his desk and walked out. After everything was said and done, I filed unemployment which he denied. I gave the unemployment officer the taped recording, along with my father’s death certificate. I recvd an unemployment check. Then my lawyer sent him some paperwork to inform him that the company as well as him directly were being sued. That was a wonderful day and a nice settlement

I worked at a small painting company that had high expectations (the usual). I was informed about an employee who spent countless hours and bent backwards for the company. The guy literally worked to death... he passed away while on the job and had sacrificed all his time away from family. The company didn't even acknowledge him for his hard work. Let alone give his family money to cover for their loss. Don't ever give your life up, especially to these greedy corporations. Work to live, and dont live to work.

They sent a junior level employee to Texas with a one month's salary severance check for this chosen and groomed manager. I knew what was happening from my position in the Payroll office and made a call to this employee from my home to let him know what was coming his way. Then I quit. After I retired covid hit, but all the friends I had in life were my work friends. When I needed them the most all of them wouldn't even give me a quick text much less a phone call or a visit when covid eased. I lost the four closest members of my family of my generation to that disease and all my so-called friends never sent me a kind word. It would have meant the absolute world to me if they did.
