I kept saying "that's not fair" to myself when she mentioned his anxiety attack but let's not forget about Randall's angry voicemail. What's so amazing about this show is the realness, we all have those moments. I don't think there is a good guy or bad guy here just 2 people who are in the thick of it and need to pull themselves out. Hopefully together ❤

I have anxiety attacks, and it's a real fight. But Beth is right. I think it's really hard to live with an anxious person. And Randall always wants to be perfect and has fantaisies. He forgets Beth's dream and what she does for him (William/Kevin/flat/politics). It's a deep argue but necessary. For each side.

If she gave up her dreams she made him believe that was OK then Beth is to blame. You can't go 20 years into a marriage and blame your partner for your choices, did she communicate to him clearly that she was not OK with his decisions or did she make him believe that she was happy with him taking charge. She belittling his anxiety attacks she crossed the line that is a big NO NO, if your husband has special needs and you had to give up on your needs to accommodate his condition you only do it out of love not out of pity, and you don't regret that sacrifice or throw it back in his face as if they are to blame for being sick. Mental illness is serious if you love someone you don't make them feel less for not being perfect.

Anu very good points, BUT when Beth said his parents were in it, Randall KNEW she was right but refused to except that and then said that she was being revisionist about their history!! I love Randall and know that he has special needs, but he wouldn’t have had a career, a beautiful family and the chance to look after his terminally ill father if not for all the bending that Beth did while understanding & dealing with his condition, Why oh why can he not give Beth the ONE THING that SHE NEEDS in all of their 20 years together, Sorry but he can’t use his condition this time, in a moment of anger Beth mentioned it, and apologised, and right away it’s all her fault!! 😡😡😡😡. Sadly now that Beth has at long last taken a stand, I cannot see any way back from this!

@@frankie5862 anxiety does not come and go as one wants. He cannot use his condition "this time" Makes literally no sense. Beth wants to dance. And Randall wants to save lives being the city Council. All Randal asked was her to take care of THEIR children. And never at the cost of her career. No one is to be blamed. They are both ambitious individuals who also happen to be parents. These conflicts are natural.

Medha Basu I apologise using the words ‘this time’ but Beth said it herself they promised not to get lost in themselves, she broke that promise and he let her! Through the whole argument Randall refused to take on board what Beth was saying was true, even though he knew with the flash back to his parents argument she was right. Beth should not have thrown his panic attack’s in his face, but she knew the minute she said it, it was wrong and apologised! Giving him the excuse to walk out and making Beth the villain! I have people in my life who suffer with anxiety and panic attack’s but they don’t refuse to except when they’re wrong, like Randall!! I love Randall and Beth but seeing this other side to him his absolute refusal to except that he’s in anyway at fault in this argument is sad, but he has to take some responsibility for the state of their marriage!

Phelton Phive in my opinion you’re missing the point. Beth apologises when she’s wrong, in this argument Randall refuses point blank to except any fault on the argument, even though he knows she’s right, all through their twenty years together it’s always been Beth, as she says has to bend in every situation she’s the one who steps up to the plate so Randall can stay on track. Randall can say he loves her and cares for her ( and he does!) all he wants but not once has he taken the time to consider her dreams, but she has to fall in line so he can fulfill his! So where is Beth’s apology from Randall for putting her dreams to one side for him! 😡

Listen, I don't think Beth was wrong for saying what she said about his anxiety attacks. She meant it. It's the same thing she said after tonight's episode (March 3,2020), almost a year later: "I'm afraid that if I put any more weight on you, you'll crack." Basically what she's saying is 'there's no room for me in this relationship.' and ironically that's what she said about her mother.. There's no air around her mother.

I mostly am too but it’s not that simple and that’s why this show is so great. Her biggest fault in this argument (aside from the anxiety attack comment) is “you let me.” Nobody is responsible for your choices other than yourself. I understand her feeling that way but to put that on him when he’s been a very supportive and loving husband throughout the show is very unfair. The truth is she let him. I have anxiety and Panic Attacks/Anxiety Attacks but I completely agree with Beth. Randall is constantly taking on new challenges and fighting for new dreams and where does that leave Beth? She’s always on the sidelines and the one time that Beth has something she is passionate about, it just has to be about Randall. I just don’t think it’s fair at all. I feel like he’s constantly making things about him and he completely forgets how his actions could affect Beth, he never takes anyone’s feelings into consideration.

Honestly this fight is just... it's rare. You don't ever see a fight between a married couple without violence or yelling or any filthy tricks to justify breaking a relationship apart. There was no fear in either of them that things would go out of control. I absolutely adore how Beth would not stand down. From the very beginning she was bending. After having an epiphany that changed EVERYTHING for her, she deserved to get it. The anxiety attacks was a low blow but in all honesty, Randall did it first so I don't really blame her. She wanted to both hurt him and also prove her point with the most powerful punch. It was just too powerful And I love Randall but man, she is right. He made all these choices that are good but he never sought to actually discuss how this would affect the relationship. He left it to 'love finds a way' which is what he has always done. I really hope someone was listening in, Annie is the one I would want to the most. She is way too removed from the serious parts of the narrative (which is good since she is so young) but now that it's season 4 she needs to get some serious stuff. Plus it is a good way to parallel with young Randall, especially since she is such a daddy's girl.

I know most people are going to say "not everything is about gender bla bla bla...", but in this case, it kinda is as well. The Pearsons have been internalizing traditional gender norms ever since Rebecca stayed home to care for her 3 kids. Its funny how This is Us never really explicitly discuss about gender norms when the main characters seem to have quite rigid ideas of it (Jack, Toby, Randall). They discussed about a lot of things (racism, body image issues, depression, addiction, coming out, etc.), but not gender norms or sexism in general.

I have been a Christian for over 36 years and have been in leadership positions and watched Pastors demand their wives give up everything to support his dreams and visions. Whenever that happens you usually create a miserable marriage for title and position only or divorce. Beth is right. She has made so many sacrifices for Randall's dreams, but where she is wrong is that she allowed it. Both are wrong but Beth was complicit in it. Now she can no longer endure being looked over so she is striking back. Randall can't see it because it has gone on so long that he has normalized and would have to admit even though he was adopted, he is truly his father's son.

Has no one noticed that at 14:40, the time with them on the bed at the dorm. Beth looked like she was going to vomit when she started kissing him. What's that all about? I wonder if she really was sick in this episode. It was a weird kiss.

All I can say is that I would never again be with a man like Randall in the first place, let alone marry him or have children with him. That first date between him and Beth showed Beth and us the audience all we need to know about him and I would have been running away terrified if I were her. Their marriage was always going to lead to this. I have no patience for overly obsessive people or for people who steamroll me with constantly demanding my support and attention but then screaming bloody murder if I turn around and ask for one thing. I made the mistake of being with someone like that before and those are mental scars that will never heal. Never again.

Beth is a grown woman. You have twenty years to say no. Her placing the responsibility of her actions on him is ridiculous. She can be right in saying his vision has been the default, but she can't complain if she never voiced her issues with it beforehand. If you are an adult, it's your responsibility to advocate for yourself in a healthy relationship, and then it's your partner's responsibility to be open to that message. But if you don't say anything, you can't turn around and complain about the result. That is revisionist history.

A true partner doesn't let you shrink yourself. They don't knowingly stream roll over you or have a self-centered way of walking through marriage and then shrug and say "well you should've stuck up for yourself 🤷🏿‍♂️" that's not being a partner. When you put more and more and more on your spouse's shoulders and you only stop when they speak up or break isn't a healthy marriage. A real partner should check in. Should see how the other is holding up. They should ASK and discuss and check to see if their partner is okay. They should COMMUNICATE and see if their spouse is okay with making a huge life decision instead of just making it for them and expecting them to roll with the punches no matter what
@BackAndBlacker
@BackAndBlacker 20 күн бұрын
@@HelloGudbye93 Communication is a two-way street. If Beth wasn't ok with those decisions she should have voiced that before. Instead of making it seem like she was ok with those decisions.

As someone with a depression and anxiety disorder, I’m on Beth’s side here. The anxiety attacks comment wasn’t even out of line. It is so easy to lose yourself in taking care of someone else. Randall had a panic disorder, and she felt like she had to hold everything together while he was spinning out. It’s a very valid point.
