If she gave up her dreams she made him believe that was OK then Beth is to blame. You can't go 20 years into a marriage and blame your partner for your choices, did she communicate to him clearly that she was not OK with his decisions or did she make him believe that she was happy with him taking charge. She belittling his anxiety attacks she crossed the line that is a big NO NO, if your husband has special needs and you had to give up on your needs to accommodate his condition you only do it out of love not out of pity, and you don't regret that sacrifice or throw it back in his face as if they are to blame for being sick. Mental illness is serious if you love someone you don't make them feel less for not being perfect.

Phelton Phive in my opinion you’re missing the point. Beth apologises when she’s wrong, in this argument Randall refuses point blank to except any fault on the argument, even though he knows she’s right, all through their twenty years together it’s always been Beth, as she says has to bend in every situation she’s the one who steps up to the plate so Randall can stay on track. Randall can say he loves her and cares for her ( and he does!) all he wants but not once has he taken the time to consider her dreams, but she has to fall in line so he can fulfill his! So where is Beth’s apology from Randall for putting her dreams to one side for him! 😡

It's the same thing she said after tonight's episode (March 3,2020), almost a year later: "I'm afraid that if I put any more weight on you, you'll crack." Honestly this fight is just... it's rare. You don't ever see a fight between a married couple without violence or yelling or any filthy tricks to justify breaking a relationship apart. There was no fear in either of them that things would go out of control. I absolutely adore how Beth would not stand down. From the very beginning she was bending. After having an epiphany that changed EVERYTHING for her, she deserved to get it. The anxiety attacks was a low blow but in all honesty, Randall did it first so I don't really blame her. She wanted to both hurt him and also prove her point with the most powerful punch. It was just too powerful And I love Randall but man, she is right. He made all these choices that are good but he never sought to actually discuss how this would affect the relationship. He left it to 'love finds a way' which is what he has always done. I really hope someone was listening in, Annie is the one I would want to the most. She is way too removed from the serious parts of the narrative (which is good since she is so young) but now that it's season 4 she needs to get some serious stuff. Plus it is a good way to parallel with young Randall, especially since she is such a daddy's girl.

I know most people are going to say "not everything is about gender bla bla bla...", but in this case, it kinda is as well. The Pearsons have been internalizing traditional gender norms ever since Rebecca stayed home to care for her 3 kids. Its funny how This is Us never really explicitly discuss about gender norms when the main characters seem to have quite rigid ideas of it (Jack, Toby, Randall). They discussed about a lot of things (racism, body image issues, depression, addiction, coming out, etc.), but not gender norms or sexism in general.

Whenever that happens you usually create a miserable marriage for title and position only or divorce. Beth is right. She has made so many sacrifices for Randall's dreams, but where she is wrong is that she allowed it. Both are wrong but Beth was complicit in it. Beth is a grown woman. You have twenty years to say no. Her placing the responsibility of her actions on him is ridiculous. She can be right in saying his vision has been the default, but she can't complain if she never voiced her issues with it beforehand. If you are an adult, it's your responsibility to advocate for yourself in a healthy relationship, and then it's your partner's responsibility to be open to that message. But if you don't say anything, you can't turn around and complain about the result. That is revisionist history.

A true partner doesn't let you shrink yourself. They don't knowingly stream roll over you or have a self-centered way of walking through marriage and then shrug and say "well you should've stuck up for yourself 🤷🏿♂️" that's not being a partner. When you put more and more and more on your spouse's shoulders and you only stop when they speak up or break isn't a healthy marriage. A real partner should check in. Should see how the other is holding up. They should ASK and discuss and check to see if their partner is okay. They should COMMUNICATE and see if their spouse is okay with making a huge life decision instead of just making it for them and expecting them to roll with the punches no matter what

Could someone help me understand what is was that Beth meant when she said “You don’t even realize it, but they’re both in it!” to Randall? Who did she mean by “both”?
@michelleb98844 жыл бұрын
She was referring to his parents.

Randall is a narcissist plain and simple. He weaponizes therapy language, changes Beth's words on her and frankly, I wouldn't be surprised if he fakes his anxiety attacks.

As someone with a depression and anxiety disorder, I’m on Beth’s side here. The anxiety attacks comment wasn’t even out of line. It is so easy to lose yourself in taking care of someone else. Randall had a panic disorder, and she felt like she had to hold everything together while he was spinning out. It’s a very valid point.

How ? Randell would do anything for Beth but Beth can’t do anything for him? She’s rude and acts like she’s does everything when she does nothing
@juliamiller51206 ай бұрын
@@Big-back23she showed up for him time and time and time again. She has always supported him and his dreams. And this one time, she has a dream. Something she desperately missed and needed back in her life and he’s expecting her to sacrifice it for him.

Damnnnnnnnn the low blow, but you can't blame someone because you lacked the courage to pursue something you loved to do she used him for an scapegoat

This a prime example of why marriage and kids is a horrible idea. You can never ever win and simply relax!

Generally, men dreams support the family where a womans dream supports themselves. Not to say that she wouldnt be there but ther dreams would seperate them to a certain extent
