another fine recital of an old school favourite - it brings back fond memories of 1st year secondary school, especially Miss Richardson, back in 1974! As always, good wishes & thanks, Stu

fantastic ... Memories flooding back. My school hall was an old converted church, and it still had the organ, and this was one of the hymns we regularly sang.

Warm greeting and a big thank you all the way from Southern California. I used to sing this at Boarding School in England oh so many years ago!

Lyrics He who would valiant be 'gainst all disaster Let him in constancy follow the Master There's no discouragement shall make him once relent His first avowed intent to be a pilgrim Who so beset him round with dismal stories Do but themselves confound - his strength the more is No foes shall stay his might; though he with giants fight He will make good his right to be a pilgrim Since, Lord, Thou dost defend us with Thy Spirit We know we at the end, shall life inherit Then fancies flee away! I'll fear not what men say I'll labor night and day to be a pilgrim

The tune is that of an old English folk song known by various titles. If any of you would care to enter: Shirley Collins - "A Blacksmith Courted Me", into KZbin, you will hear the very lovely basis of this hymn. Greetings to one and all from Jarrahnut in wonderful Western Australia.

I learned today that John Bunyan authored a hymn. After searching it on KZbin and listening to many versions, this is my favorite. Thank you for such a gorgeous rendering!

I First Heard These Marvellous Hymns That Moved Me So Much As A Young Schoolboy. Such Encouragement. Although I Became A “ Jazzman”, Including 16 Years With The Late Kenny Ball, It’s Such Sounds As These, That First Stirred My Soul And Still Do. Superb Playing Rob. Good Wishes From Scotland.

I really love this, John. Hearing from you about what first stirred your soul, and still does! Jazz can be part of that too, but...

Wow....what a beautiful church! That organ is impressive and so was the playing. I've never heard that hymn before. I'm in the U.S., so that may be why. Lovely!

That was beautiful! I don't know why some American churches feel the need to change the words and the tune? Your hymns are much more beautiful.

*I would like to hear this played by the band of the Royal Marines, with our lovely Queen singing the words. Now THAT'S what I call an organ*

When I hear this one, Rob, I'm always reminded of when I read an abridged version of "The Pilgrims Progress" back in 1960. of course, the Hymn too was written by John Bunyan. Many thanks. Charlie, Aberdeen
