@@calebkaminski6951 I'd still consider her skin pink for all intents and purposes. It's like if you were drained of all your blood your skin would change colour too, right? I know it's not the best example but it's the best I could think of. The pink skin is her natural state. She only got pushed to that pigmentation because of how much of her own biological acid she used up.

@@marvin39195 I think that is either a technique that Horikoshi used to just to show that her skin is differently coloured due to the acid build up, or it got like that due to Horikoshi using a darker pink than her hair when he coloured the manga and that is the result of trying to print a coloured page in grayscale. (Like when you copy a picture in colour, but the printer was set to print black and white, and all the other colours becomes different shades of gray.)

This is what I’ve been saying. If someone interprets a story a certain way all the power to them. The problem is when anime fans gaslight themselves (and others) into thinking their personal interpretation is the only way to interpret the anime. There are multimillions of people watching/reading MHA with their own life experiences that influences how they interact with the story. Headcanons are fun. That is until people get so obsessed with them that when information that contradicts their headcanon is confirmed, they throw a tantrum. Headcanons are meant to be fun lil things you make to expand on a character in your own way, lil ideas that could be canon but aren't confirmed. Not things that the creator needs to confirm as canon. If the creator likes the headcanons, they might consider it. But they are not obliged to bend the story to the fans. Its their story.

At least the Naruto fanbase knows NaruSasu isn't going to canonically happen. They know the author likes to tease the fans with the infamous kiss scene or all the openings that have their face inches away from each other. That doesn't mean they're certain that they're going to hook up. However with MHA, I hardly see anything that ship teases the two rival characters but they get triggered that Deku is straight despite he gets flustered around women.
@wingadept8793

Oh it was bad at the time! When NaruHina was confirmed as the winner, Kishimoto received a lot of death threats. Hell it was so toxic that I remember there being a funraiser done called Ban Naruto, just because of what happened. It was that toxic, even his editor had to make a tweet in regards to asking people to respect his work. The same thing happened with Bleach to a lesser extent when Ichihime beat out Ichiruki. A lot of fans were upset at the time (Me being one of them, but I've accepted it). But yeah man, back in the day it was wild.

@wingadept8793 True, the shipping wars were crazy back then. I blame the anime adaptation for making the shipping wars worse for Bleach. I realized midway watching they were very biased for IchiRuki. I don't know if anyone actually believed that Naruto and Sasuke were going to end up, but most people I seen joked about them, and it didn't help there was a dozen ship tease moments. Now Deku and Bakugo, I don't see any ship tease moments and people get triggered the mere thought that Deku is straight
@wingadept8793
@wingadept8793 5 күн бұрын
@@DarkknightChris I agree that the anime were biased but to me there always seemed to be a deeper connection between Ichigo and Rukia in the manga. Ichigo would always confide in her, showing her his vulnerable side. Not with Orihime. It both Ichigo and Rukia that were there for one another at each other's lowest point. I along with many others just felt their chemistry was just so much better. So it felt like the floor was swept right from under us when Kubo had him marry Orihime. I don't like it but I accepted it. That's why we have fanfiction and fanart to cope right? XD As for MHA, I'm not a Yoai/Yuri shipper. Personally I shipped Midoriya with either Momo or the animal lady he saved during the vigilante arc. As for Bakugo I ship him with Uraraka. I think their personalities would blend well.

If anything I'd compare the way Mina acts to the troupe "Gyaru" that are more and more popular with each modern anime. Especially since the Gal Motif is often said to be inspired by western culture's influence on Japan. All in all I agree with your take that so many people are stigmatized and think that 'Cancel' and 'Ethnic Diversity' Culture is universal... when the simple fact is... quite a bit of the world is not that way... in most acceptance cases the best way to not need 'ethnically diverse' stories is to just see people as people. One must try to understand the culture of the source world before going off about their head canon's possibility of being true. For the first 2 Seasons, I was a big fan of BnHA, got my now ex-gf into the series, and then the writing just started to taper off after Stain. I don't dislike Horikoshi's writing style, but the thing about Head Canons is.... There's such a thing as writing fan fiction for a reason. My ex and I were writing a fanfic during that time with the controversial head canon that at the end of the story Tetsutetsu and Kirishima began a relationship together... but we kept it at just that head canon that personally I no longer believe but it fit our end of the story that we were piecing out right around the beginning to the first war arc... and then Tetsutetsu and other great characters never showed up again. TLDR: Head canons are okay to have as long as you accept that you aren't the author and aren't responsible for writing a series. You wanna make Mina black even though she displays more traits of a Gyaru? Write your own fanfic where she is that.

If I had to guess, the reason they were so disappointed was because they wanted to feel “represented” in the 1-A class. There was no harm in feeling that way, and up to that point there was nothing to directly contradict that claim. That’s fine and all, but people seriously need to chill. I mean, it’s a manga from Japan. Not a whole lot of “diversity” over there, and they’re definitely not in a hurry to add to their “color palette”. The fact that dark-skinned characters like Mirko and Rock-Lock are in the story at all is kind of impressive. Hell, if you want to get technical the only “white representation” we really see for major characters are the Shields (mostly Melissa, if we’re being honest), Star and Stripes, and Pony from 1-B. Literally every other major character of even the slightest importance is Asian.

If you don't behave, look like, or agree with the stereotype, you are seen as not being "(insert label here) enough" at best or a "traitor" or "othered" at worst. Are headcanons bad? Nah. Its only bad when people don't realize it's just a headcanon. Also why avoid an anime because the fanbase is trash you don't have to interact with them online and even if you do they are in the minority i have never come across any weird mha fan online.i personally think that reason is kinda dumb.
@pkjose1343
@pkjose1343 3 күн бұрын
I agree with you that avoiding an anime or a piece of media solely because the fan base is bad is usually not that good of a reason to not watch it. But I think the reasoning in their minds is less to do with the show itself and more of "I don't want to be associated with THESE people for watch THIS show." Even if it's just a minority. I understand that feeling but as you already explained, you can just not interact with those moronic individuals. So it's usually a non issue if your not in that space on social media.

honestly im not entirely against the bkdk fanbase as in the bkdk, not bakudeku. To elaborate the differences those are just non-problematic vs problematic. bakudeku i'd say is the people you are describing in the video. I don't completely understand it but we all got to remember WHAT headcanons are. Headcanons are like if you watched a show and its not in a time period they'd play specific sports, but sometimes you go like "Oh that person would definetly play baseball" and things like that. Some people might not agree and argue "they'd definetly play soccer". We don't understand where someone gets that but thats just an opinion, theres no right or wrong. I feel like bkdk fans KNOW it's only a headcannon and it'll never happen in the series, but its something they like on a side note while watching it. Usually from the ones i met they dont try to shove it in other peoples face, so I don't hate against them.

I agree. Just because the creators don’t know your own headcannon, doesn’t mean that you should attack them and the series, just because your headcannon isn’t true. The creators won’t have the same image of the franchise as you, so it’s stupid to get upset over a headcannon, not being cannon. You’re allowed to have headcannons, but don’t act like it’s fact, especially when actual cannon does something different.

I hate head canon, shipping and fanfiction because some fans take things seriously by confirming things what the creator didn’t. to the point they get so upset they bully the creator and sending death threats. I bump into crazy fans to take things seriously or confirming something by their head canon. yamato being trans not true, riley from inside out saying she’s gay that’s not true and etc.

For example grim from Billy and Mandy. people thought he was black because his Jamaican accent. but really, he was white. when we saw that we was like OK cool then move on. Even if you dig deeper of the character, originally he was supposed to be British or Australian. But the voice actor put his spin on it. The maker liked it, and went for it. so that’s my guess why he is white.

🧍‍♀️ kinda reminds me how some people with trans character headcanon(that they try to pass as being real fact) almost pull the transphobic card when someone just kindly try to inform the creators said it was canonically a cis character (Nothing wrong with gender headcanon, just wish that some people wouldn't take it as an offense that when they try to pass it as real canon fact they got someone just respectfully saying the real canon said otherwise) Thankfully people taking it as an offense are just a minority, and a majority don't try to pass their headcanon for real fact As long as everyone is respectful any headcanon is fine 🙏

Interpreting a character's race is fine for characters like Piccolo from Dragon Ball, or Tali from Mass Effect. They arnt regular earthly beings with ties too actual irl races. So its 100% ok to interpret them in a way to feel a bigger connection to the character. But when its a canonicaly Japanese human girl and your only reasoning is "she is loud, brash, and likes to breakdance" i think thats crosing a few lines too put it lightly.

I often hear people saying "representation is important" like a mantra, but I have several questions about that: - Why is representation important? If the author doesn't want to represent anything other than what they're already writing, trying to force representation of something else will just lead to tokenism. - How much representation is enough representation? If we don't set a clear goal for how much representation is enough, activists will just keep demanding more and more until they take over the entire project. But if a set goal is determined, inserting representation becomes just tokenism, as executives will demand representation in the exact quantity that is necessary to complete the quota and nothing of value will be done with it. -What or who should be represented? Are we talking body types, age, gender, ethnicity, religion, geographical locations, costumes, culture, historical people, contemporary names or something else entirely? Just what exactly is being demanded with "representation"? - Are there exceptions to that demand? There will be times when something or someone not being represented makes sense within the context of the project, and inserting representation would break the lore/canon/immersion. Are the people demanding for representation willing to acknowledge that fact or are they going to force representation regardless? - What are the consequences of there being no representation? If the consequence of there being no representation is simply that a group isn't portrayed in the project, what's the big deal? Conversely, why should that group even be depicted in a project that doesn't involve that type of person to begin with? The more you think about it, the more "representation is important" seems like a fallacy! Just let writers, directors and animators do their thing, and if you would like to see something else, look elsewhere or go create your own!

In my opinion if people can’t separate canon from headcanon than maybe they shouldn’t make headcanons at all. Also for the ashido situation, I’m hoping it’s like newer mha fans that think she’s black because that I can understand since they can get their information from anywhere and maybe they got their information from twitter who knows, but if it’s an older mha fan and they think that she’s black than maybe they should reread or rewatch the anime/manga or at this point just take a break from headcanons in general.

Super powers aside, MHA is a fairly realistic story in terms of what happens and how the world of the story works (at least compared to a lot of other stories like this). And most of this stems from the 'authors' view of the real world. The fact that MHA has any representation AT ALL considering how Japan 'is' as a country, is kind of a welcome surprise. The fans who had that 'need' to be pleased and validated by the story in their own very specific ways without keeping their expectations grounded, where never going to be to begin with.
