MJA made a nice job of that head Keith, I'm pretty sure that it was acid dipped to clean it up, they normally acid dip the blocks and heads that I take down to them.

I believe the paint on the inside of the head (and the block too) was to keep any excess sand from the casting process from separating from the casting as it corrodes over time.

Hi Keith, I agree the middle of Lidl can be an interesting place to visit but I also like some of their other produce. I needed three coats on my cylinder head and block, but noticed the other day that I’d managed to scrape off a bit of paint as I was checking the spark plugs so touch up needed. Still not got “Christine” running yet I tried the other day got fuel and a spark but I think the timing must be miles off after the rebuild now searching for static timing set ups just to get her to fire up, thankfully there’s no hurry just looking forward to that first burst of life again. Have a great Christmas everyone. Take Care Stay Safe Everyone Regards Dave 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

If you check the crank pulley timing mark is aligned and the valves are both closed on cylinder 1 (TDC) then it should just be a case of making sure the rotor arm is pointing at plug No.1 on the distributor cap. That should be enough to get it to fire up. Good luck, nothing better than the feeling of the 1st start of rebuild!

"The middle of Lidl" LOL! My late father would have loved Lidl - he was always after a (dubious!) bargain!

It always amazes me what's for sale in the middle of a food supermarket. Went in for a loaf of bread and came out with 1000 cable ties, a drill and jet washer LOL

Wish you would take apart the gear box, great looking mini

I've done some bits on the gearbox in later episodes but just limited to gaskets and seals. The gearbox was working fine so it's a bit pointless taking it apart

@@classicminiworkshop I got one that’s working too but I’m tempted to open and upgrade, AP2 world has all the parts if you ever need any. Keep those videos coming. Great work

Lidl website has a section that tells you whats coming up in the 'non food' offers as they call them. Handy if you only go in for the chainsaws and compressors but dont do your weekly foodshop in there, so you know if there is something worth going in for
