A job I did many times working at the Skoda dealer in the 80's and 90's.

Not related to cars but love your HDR content and the way my MacBook and iPhone respond. Incredible picture quality.

@@OGCars my MacBook pro m3 dims the screen apart from the youtube window. It all pings with hdr goodness. It’s not “the normal”. Just so you know.

Vital to check the liner heights if you want the gasket to last they MUST be correct, each liner sits on copper rings, I think it was about 7 thou protrusion ideally, it's been a long time.

Yes they sit on copper rings and it’s a complete tear down if you’re replacing those! I can’t remember exactly how the story went but a mechanic I used to work with said in the 80s they had a recall on Estelles due to oversize rings and to save time they ‘forced’ the liners down from the top some more instead of stripping it down or something along those lines… I can’t quite remember, but it didn’t sound like official guidance 😂 The Skoda since this video has been running nicely, stay tuned for episodes 3 and 4 soon… 👀

@@OGCars I don't remember that recall at all, suspect bollox on that one. I do remember a seatbelt recall because they put the reel over the carpet leading to slackening of the mount bolt, that was Estelles, someone at the factory managed to get engine oil into the bulk brake fluid storage at the factory leading to many master cylinder failures. On the Favorit we had rear wheel bearings going bad due to no grease, official recall for that. We had cylinder heads corroding away on the early Favorites due to zero corrosion inhibitor in the coolant from factory, a fuse board recall for a modified design to be fitted, customers kept yanking the relays and the terminals out thinking they'd got the bonnet handle! Also every rubber component on an estelle and many favorits fell apart after a year, things got better when VW came in and took over. Looks like your car there is one of the last with a carb, decent carb those pierburgs, never much trouble unlike the snide weber copy on the estelles.

@@misscrabstick I’d say less likely that and more likely I recounted it incorrectly but I seem to recall now he said it was on a select few new cars as opposed to a recall - I certainly remember him mentioning the original coolant issue and the fuse board recall when it came to the Favorits! We’ve had probably almost ten Favorits over the last few years and love them, we’ve had from H reg up to N reg (one of the very last, N181 AMT), I think my personal favourite is still the grey Favorit Forum Estate we have on the channel still! There’s videos on that too if you’re interested, thanks for joining us!
