I’m glad to know I wasn’t crazy and this actually existed

It's just a shame that it doesn't exist as a whole in reality.

I am super curious about the episodes and gags that could have been done with this. In particular the last clip of her body freaking out while she is unaware. Does anyone know if she was just a full robot or just had a robotic body?
@strangway3 жыл бұрын
I agree. My favorite parts are the scenes of her head just sitting on a table somewhere,but I'm pretty sure the original premise had the Mom being a human woman's head on a robot body. They scrapped it because there would be too much explanation. Is she an android? What happened to their birth mother? If not, how and why did she end up decapitated? Also, decapitation is way too morbid for a kids show.

@@strangway i feel like the simplest explanation is that it is like fashion in the future to get a robot body. I mean they never really explained how the wizard changes their bodies so i dont think they need an explanation beyond strange future society

Actually, her whole body aside from her head is robotic, but the reason why the idea was scrapped was more because of the whole terrorist decapitation videos that had been released publicly and Disney wanted not even the tiniest of thing that could remind people of those videos… 😬

@@withjust-a-bite1396 I remember that and I'm still a bit traumatized 20+ years later. Imagine how bad this would have gone over. But what producer/ head writer signed off on the idea of a robot mom to human children without thinking up an explanation. On "Umbrella Academy" they were adopted children that had an android mother, but it was stated from the beginning.

Do you know what ep this would have been on?
@strangway7 жыл бұрын
The clips are from the unaired pilot which I believe is available on the series companion DVD "Phil of the Future: Gadgets & Gizmos".

Yes. It's available from Amazon on DVD. I don't know about a digital rip. I'll check.

What is the name of this unaired episode?
@strangway Жыл бұрын
It doesn't have one. There's no name for it because there's no episode. It's just an old promo for the show that used scrapped footage that never aired before the show was premiered on the Disney Channel.

What is that show?
@strangway6 жыл бұрын
It was called "Phil of the Future". The clip was compiled from unaired footage during the shows early promotional stages. The concept of the Mom with a detachable head was eventually dropped from the storyline of the show before airing.

Where can I find the unaired pilot?
@strangway4 жыл бұрын
You can't. In the original show concept, Barbara Diffy was going to have a detachable head and a robotic body, which is why the character is wearing chokers and turtlenecks throughout the first season; to cover up where her head was supposed to detach. However, all scenes of this idea were cut out during the episodes aired, despite clips being included in some of the early advertisements.

Good head detach, but poor hair fasion, character figure and not even real in the show, sad.
@strangway3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, apparently they ditched the idea after shooting this unaired pilot, before the show was in full production, because they deemed it too horrific for Disney Channel audiences.
