The Black Diamond storm is pretty sad in comparison considering it’s 3x the price! The beam shot on trail seems super dim! The weight of the Black Diamond is nice though

As AN Experianced Headlight user. ( 14 winter seasons on a beach, aswell as driving a boat ) Everyone use to buy petzl on my crew, and most petzls did not last a full winter. I would get some of their best models available in the store, and every winter Id go through 3 or 4 per season, I tried a black daimond, It lasted 5 years with the same abuse. Everyone on the crew left the petsl brand and went to black daimond, My black daimond ( people on the crew had, storm, cosmo, revolt, Icons, ) and I can say from personal experiance and observation the black daimond will outlast the petzl if your using it alot in the weather. Petzl cant handle abuse, Black daimond can. If you drop a petzl in a puddle, You proly will get 2 weeks max out of it,, Or spill coffee on it ( dashboard truck incident ) Youl need a new light. If you have a season thats more rainy then others, the petzl dosent handle it well. My black daimond has been dropped in puddles ( salt water ) forgotton on a boat in arain storm pick up , lost in mud and found a day later, and it still works, and been t hrough the worst of weather. aswell as dropped on rocks lots.. Petzl cant handle. ( I was an Oyster farmer boss ) Ive seen all of the headlamp stuff as far as petzl vs black daimond in real life. Black Daimond for the Win !!!!!. Im just looking to get a new headlight here and looking at reviews and stuff. Not cause its broken, Just over time it dosent hold a charge aswell, also new models offer more power. I used a black daimond icon ( the one with the short wire, ) and I use them at home at night alot too, walking, working in the yard, what have u. I use the hell out of my lights

Great review. These two torches always come up in any search. What are your thoughts on the gap in the Actik Core in regards to where the battery goes? I've read reviews saying it is exposed
@trailtrevtv53042 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the message and apologies for the delay. I'm not 100% familiar with the Artic Core but quick research suggests that it's only water resistant (IPX4) which could be related to the gap you mention. Based on my experience, I'd certainly want a headtorch that is okay with some submersion. I have recently picked up a new Black Diamond Storm 400 and its IPX67 which means it can handle immersion over 1m for 30 minutes. Perhaps it's time for a new show down video!

Black diamond storm specs tell us about being powered by 4 AAA batteries. Am I seeing the new 2019 model which is something different than you currently review?
@trailtrevtv53045 жыл бұрын
Hi Cordos Dan, you are correct in that the BD Storm is powered by 4 x AAA batteries. The BD headtorch in the clip was actually a BD Spot which does only have 3 x AAA batteries and subsequently under performed the Petzl Tikkina in lumen output but its other features, which are common to BD headtorches such as dimmable memory function and a lock feature are worthy of consideration when purchasing. The BD Storm seems a popular head torch and I will have to grab one for a comparison. Thanks again for your message!

How's it going, this question is off topic I know, how are AA, or any batteries recycled do you know? Please & thanks..
@trailtrevtv53042 жыл бұрын
This is really a great question that I never thought about! According to Wikipedia there is currently no cost-neutral recycling option available for disposable alkaline batteries. Some head torches are now offering rechargeable battery packs ( Petzl Artic Core) which may be a more sustainable option for the environment as they can be recycled eventually.
