From MIT review "We can report that BrainBridge is not a real company-it’s not incorporated anywhere. The video was made by Hashem Al-Ghaili, a Yemeni science communicator and film director who in 2022 made a viral video called “EctoLife,” about artificial wombs, that also left journalists scrambling to determine if it was real or not."

Tbh he should get a job creating ads for biotechnology companies. The scariest part is though these are both fictional, we do have the tech to do both of these currently. What is happening behind closed doors is probably, in the words of Nicolai Tesla:" Man made horrors beyond your ability to comprehend" 😮😳💀

This is the craziest thing I've ever seen 😶 even crazier than the artificial womb!!! So the recipient has the brain, memories and everything of the donor but still gets to keep his/her face!!! Crazy is an understatement!!

As a PhD in translational medicine, I see a lot of BS for attracting investments only. What "advanced real-time molecular iamging techniques"? How they ensure 360° observation and manipulation during procedure? There is a ton of research into autonomous, fully robotic suturing and ligation, but I don't think there is one that could do what is required for this demo. Human anatomy might differ drastically, not only by size, but also blood vessel, muscle etc structures. There are also about half a dozen medical problems which if resolved currently have a chance to get Nobel Prize.

Yeah, I'm not a doctor but I can definitely see the high-degree of BS in this. A fool and his money is easily parted and, yes, this company very well may make tens, if not hundreds, of millions off of Silcom Valley investment firms in the off-hope that they actually succeed. I have to hand it too them, though. They spent maybe $20-30k on this video and they may easily rake in $20m. That's not a bad ROI, for sure.

The animation is pretty neat, but there's some little things that shatter the illusion.. 1. The immune system will reject the brain in any case, new face doesn't matter 2. If the AI still needs to learn, there's the chance for mistakes. Which results in the death of both the donor and recipient. 3. How do you train an AI on this?

Up to that point I was thinking “surely removing and reconnecting the whole head and neck area is much more complicated than swapping the brains, but I guess the point is to retain the face so you’re still yourself” but then they swapped the faces separately lol. A doctor comes in and says "Congratulations! But unfortunately since this is a new procedure your insurance isn't going to cover it all. So we're going to give you 3 choices for brains and you can decide which you can afford." The man says to the doctor "Okay, what are they?" The doctor says "Well, first there's engineer brain, that's $100 an ounce. Then there's astrophysicist brain, that'll cost you $200 an ounce. Finally there's politician brain. That's the most expensive at $1000 an ounce." The man looks at the doctor, surprised. "that's absurd! Why is the politician brain so expensive?" The doctor turns to him and says "Sir, do you have any idea how many politicians it takes to get an ounce of brain?"

Look what Gemini (bot) said about it : "The BrainBridge project you're hearing about is not a real company in the traditional sense. It's an art project designed to spark conversation about the ethics and feasibility of head transplants. Here's the breakdown: Viral video: The project launched with a video depicting a head transplant surgery. It gained a lot of attention, but it's fictional. Created by a science communicator: The project is the work of Hashem Al-Ghaili, who aims to push boundaries and explore the potential of science. Not a real company: There's no incorporated business behind BrainBridge. The job postings are also part of the act. So, it's not a scam, but it's also not a legitimate company on the verge of performing head transplants"

Brains are all connected differently to sensory systems and autonomic systems. You would need to also establish a firing pattern map of the donor and recipient bodies first to determine where connections should be wired to, and it might be more difficult with the donor body... You need to stimulate all the neuron pathways to determine effect and also the reverse from nociceptors in like the skin back to the thalamus. This tech could work but probably like 200 years from now.

I think just brain transplant would be easier, less stuff to do during surgery, and lets say we end up finding a way to clone our selves without the brain, so we could transplant our brain into said 'empty' clones eternally.

Actually there would be more to do because you are still severing everything that goes from brain to body, but now you've added everything that goes from brain to face. On top of that our face is how we express ourselves so in the event of failure you might not just end up with a broken body, you could end up with a broken body _and_ face.

wait, you aren't giving new hope to patients with Alzheimer's and Parkinson's. Those are issues that begin and end in the brain. You give one of those patients a new body and they still have the diseased brain and it will trickle down to their new body. You had me thinking this could actually become a thing until you wrote that. Severed spinal cords, yes. However, even some diseases that leave the thinking brain intact are still brain initiated, for example, ALS starts in the brain stem. Even Polio affects the brain stem.

We assume it's temporarily dead (not brain dead, but body dead), but oxygen is still in the cells, same as the anesthetics. Substances can still interact with the neurons and all other cells WITHOUT the need of blood. Blood is just a means of transportation and delivery of necessary substances. Plus, the operation is held at 5°C, which is close to the freezing point, maintaining integrity and avoiding degradation of the cells
