Great video, Doris. The reason you can't get the piston pins out is because they're press fit. They are known as "semi-floating" pins. That will be the job of the machine shop to fit the pins. You'll also need to take the cams and the lifter buckets to the machine shop, so they can set the valve lash after grinding the valves. It appears as though the lifter buckets have removable shims in them. They come in various thicknesses, so the valve lash can be adjusted. Looking forward to the next chapter.

Sorry but it's a Toyota engine. There will be circlips in the pistons holding the gudgeon pins in. They're a full floating pin.

@@CamG-55 are you taking into consideration that Doris has removed full floating pins on prior engine builds so I suspect this engine has pressed pins. Not saying you aren't correct, but I've never seen any manufacturer that uses full floating pistons in low end engines.

Doris, the "watch batteries"are shims to adjust valve lash. Since you are doing a valve job on this head they will be adjusted as needed, but if the engine isn't getting a valve job it's very important to keep them on the same valve. Never mix them up, same with cam caps, rod and main caps. The piston pins are probably pressed on, so your machine shop will press them for you. No need to replace your rods on a stock engine unless you have a specific problem with them. Rods can be refurbished if out of spec but that's unlikely. Regarding the cams, if you can find a mild performance cam set, go for it. Should give you more power and sound better. PS. If I was your car, I couldn't think of anyone I'd rather give me a head job., and BTW, the tangerines were good! Also, get a valve spring compressor, that's the proper way to remove valves.

Don't forget to replace the hydrolic lifter too 👍 Only point to change pistons is if the block is being machined oversize really. But piston ringing etc, absolutely! Don't forget to gap the rings 😉

You did a fantastic job, I saw a video on YT, a person replaced there 3sfe engine with a 5sfe on a rav4, so the engine size will go from 2L to 2.2L, sepposably the engine mount locations are the same, you use your existing intake manifold, alternator, computer, maybe you should look into it for an extra few horsepower.

Just re-use the rods but have them re-conditioned. They check them for straightness and resize the big end so it is round and in tolerance so the bearings fit right. Check the crank for straightness and rod journals to see if they are in tolerance and that they are not egg shaped. With that many miles on it the crank may need to be ground undersized so it is round again.

I would just like to say that after watching this I tried the trick that you used with the half inch ratchet and extension and hit the spring to let go of the keepers to get the valve out. And you know what it fucking worked it was a little harder than I thought I had to hit it but maybe because I have a 25 year old Volkswagen in the spring is I don't know maybe a little heavier than I'm used to I don't know I'm not a mechanic I'm an electrician so I'm used to things being a little bit different I guess
