For automatics it’s best to remove the torque converter bolts first, then rest the engine on the floor before removing the rest of the transmission bolts to separate

Doris, place a 3 ton floor jack under the transmission to help support the weight and minimizes the swinging while you separate. Also, disconnect the torque converter from the flywheel prior to the separation. This way you only have to separate the two halves from the distance of the 2 guide pins and not the distance of the torque converter shaft which is longer to separate, as you had experienced.

Good job Doris.. the best way to remove the transmission from an engine it the place the engine on a skid with the trans hanging off one end, that way the engine remain still while the transmission can be removed. You can also at that time, place your lower jack under the transmission to hold it. It's sometimes good to use a second person but you did okay but when it's time to place the trans back, you will need to make sure the engine to stable and not moving, while on a skid if possible and using the engine jack and using your floor jack to raise it up and align it.

Doris, I love your videos. What caused you the trouble is that you didn't remove the bolts securing the torque converter to the flex plate. That could have been accomplished via an access plate in the bellhousing. Next time, you'll know. Keep up the great work.

Torque converter bolts needs to be loose first, then the transmission housing bolts.

You need two lifts one for the engine and another for the trany as once the weight is equally balanced it normally comes off with ease as you won't be fighting things that can bind.

carefuly resting the engine oil pan in order to stabilize the unit then using floor jack to assist on tail end of trans. much safer alternative .😉 how every watch you struggle a little bit is cute 😁

What you need to do is unbolt the torque converter bolts from the flex plate. You usually do it through the starter hole or a plate you take off the bottom.

Go to Harbor Freight and get a 75 dollar transmission jack. It's good for more than transmissions.

those old electrical connectors can be a pain. next time use heat gun on em for only a few seconds. will warm em enough to soften so won't break as easy.

O fato de vc reyirar a caixa antes de soltar o conversor, ny tem problema, pois aqui no Brasil uma pessoa wue trabalhou em concessionária, fez isso no meu carro r quebrou a engrenagem da bomba da caixa. O serviço era tirar o vazamento do mancal traseiro. Me deu um prejuizo enorme pois a caixa que não tinha problema algum, me devolveu o carro com vazamento na caixa e nay sanou o vazamento do motor. Apos isso, retirei a caixa rm casa por tres vezes ate que comprei uma usada e agora está tudo certo.

It's called a flex plate on an automatic and a flywheel on a standard transmission.

1 ur manual is 30 years old so most special tools are no longer available 2 u were supposed to unbolt the torque converter before removing the transmission 3 I use a meat cleaver to separate the engine from the transmission

You should have loosened the torque converter bolts first. The torque converter would have slid off with the transmission. Could have possibly made things a little bit easier
