Does the glass have to be removed to install a new headliner?
@jdisdetermined Жыл бұрын
No, but it’s way easier.
@WestCoastClassicCougar Жыл бұрын
The right way to do it is to take out the front and rear glass, because the headliner wraps around the window channels. Also, when you put your glass & new seals in place, they will help hold the headliner in place.

great how to video.....wondering how long it took the factory to install headliners like this? It had to be one of the more time consuming part of assembly .

Great video. How long do you have until that glue sets up. Seems like you have awhile. Again great job!!

Had a look at doing our 68 Mustang coupe myself, got about 5 minutes in to pulling trim off and realised just how HUGE a job this is. I was going to try and cheat and leave the screens in, with the mind set of, " oh well, the existing head liner looks like crap anyway " Damn, its going to be a while before I can afford to get this done. Things are a LOT more expensive here in Australia. Watching this video really hit home how tricky a job this is. Thanks mate.

Imagine installing these fast while the car was moving down the assembly line. Would be interesting to see how the workers did it back in the day.
@WestCoastClassicCougar7 жыл бұрын
Agreed! Wonder how quickly they could do this at the factory.
@dcsmitty507 жыл бұрын
Seems almost impossible that it could be done quickly and turn out smooth on the line. I'm sure they had a technique down, maybe the original liners had more of the curved roof shape built into them.

Everyone has their own method. This method is the most difficult I have seen! You shouldn't glue anything till its done and held tight with pieces of wind lace or strong paper clips (clamp type) I know a Mustang restorer who uses no glue. The windshield and wind lace as well as the chrome door channel hold it in. This method would not be good for a first timer!

I’m assuming the glue has to be slow drying for time to install the headliner. Where can this glue be found? I’m ready to do a headliner install in my 67 GTO.
@WestCoastClassicCougar7 жыл бұрын
We're not sure what the exact brand or type of glue was that this installer used, but there are a few glues out there made specifically for headliners. A little googling for "headliner adhesive" yields some handy results. Good luck!

I think in the factory they used steam to work out the wrinkles. I guess you could also use a $30 steam gun.

What is the insulation that's installed already?
@WestCoastClassicCougar3 жыл бұрын
That is a foil sound shield that we sell in a bulk roll: secure.cougarpartscatalog.com/10330.html. We also offer factory style insulation for the roof: secure.cougarpartscatalog.com/m247.html. The best preforming roof insulation we offer is probably the Hush mats: secure.cougarpartscatalog.com/store/Search.aspx?SearchTerms=hush&CatID=0

is this the same as a 69 coupe
@WestCoastClassicCougar8 жыл бұрын
Pretty much, although in 69-70 you have the "sail panels" in the back, which cover the C-pillars, so the headliner doesn't go down as far. This probably makes it easier!
