Hey fellas...did my 69 Elco and came out very nice for my first time. Never did one before...took about 6 hours...start to finish. Friends had no faith !! Having good lighting is important. Common sense...measure twice...cut once. Pay attention to details and take notes...this vid is spot on..... The install is similar, put a bit different for a chevy, but you get several great helpful ideas how you can DIY. Saved $300 bucks... Now I am an expert !!! LOL Thanks for the education.

Great video!! I have a 57 Thunderbird that needs a headliner, hardtop convertible. Should I leave the top on for headliner install, or remove it and do it out-of-car? Appreciate your input, keep up the great work!!

i have a 65 ranchero how do you attach the headliner by the doors and how do you fit the windlace. it all looks very different to doing a 60s triumph where it would be glued to the door frame and the furflex pushed onto the door frame. i'm in the uk

Thanks!! Do you guys put the fiberglass batting back up there too? I'm hesitant because of moisture retention. What??? You mean I can't re-assemble a car by memory after a year?

very interesting and informative as always. Do I have to have the front windshield removed on my 65 Falcon to do this?

yeah Wiz, re-install the fiberglass batting. Moister is not an issue under the roof. LOL you CAN reassemble it by memory if your memory is as sharp as ours...what was your name again? =)

If you are doing a Fastback (body 63) they are from the windshield back: position 1: blue/blue position 2: blue/brown position 3: blue/green position 4: blue/black position 5: blue/bronze. If you are doing a hardtop (coupe: Body 65) they are from the windshield back: position 1: red/red position 2: red/blue position 3: red/brown position 4: red/purple position 5: red/green. We recommend a set of the Jim Osborne Assembly manuals Wiz, they will help a ton in reassembly of the car.

Great video! Thanks for posting. I understand why a thick, heavy sound deadening material is not an option, but I'm wondering why you didn't spray Lizardskin on the underside of the roof. That should bring the noise down without adding noticeable weight, no?
@ronschlorff70894 жыл бұрын
I suppose with a "drag car" as he said, it may not even need the headliner, let alone any sound deadener, JMO. I'd want Maximum engine noise myself,...……. especially in a T-Bolt!! :D

How many tubes of adhesive did you need for the complete headliner install? and 2.) did you have to cut a couple of slots in the rear listing for the 2 wires to hook onto the the rear bow? Thanks.
@AutoRestoMod3 жыл бұрын
Usually about 1/2 to 3/4 tube. Usually I have to cut a good bit of listing off on all bows.

We don't do those here specifically. We're located in North Augusta South Carolina.

I will be attempting/glueing my first headliner on my 1967 Falcon 2 door sedan in the next few days. After watching many of your AWESOME videos over and over will it be ok to glue the front center windshield section first, and then letting it dry completely (at least a whole day of drying) before moving on to the front left and front right sections ? Will this help me out before tackling the other sections ? Or better to fully glue the entire front section all at once before moving on ? Thanks.
@AutoRestoMod5 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't there is a lot of fit and fiddle that can change that center section. Best to do it all at the same time. It really sucks to have to remove that dried glue.

Is there any way to install headliner in 63 galaxie without removing windshields???

You have to remove the glass, the headliner rides over the lip of the roofline.

been looking everwhere for this I bought a 66 Fairlane and the headliners bow were already out and my manual says different colors then what I have do u know what colors go where all on 1 side is yellow then I have bronze red white blue and yellow on the other side
@AutoRestoMod7 жыл бұрын
The Assembly manuals will have the colors listed typically. It is usually different for different years. You can try some of the Fairlane forums if the manuals don't have that info.

Yes, and were this our car we would have. The owner was not really interested in doing that as the car is for sale. BUT were it our car we would have used both the Lizard Skin Sound control and the heat barrier to keep it cooler and quieter in the car.

Well I had the rear glass removed already, hoped I could get away with it without having to do the front. I've got a nice original comet headliner that my grandpa swiped from a salvage yard in the 70's, maybe someday when the budget and time calls for it.

How many bows should a 65 fairlane have.
@AutoRestoMod6 жыл бұрын
Pretty sure it is five on hardtop and Two door sedan.
@AutoRestoMod12 жыл бұрын
We'll say this, the original would be fine BUT the threads are probably weak and there isn't going to be enough extra material (called slevage) to allow you to pull the headliner tight. Save your money and snag a new one from NPD. You'll be happier with the results
@AutoRestoMod12 жыл бұрын
That is the true bummer to any 1960s and early '70s Ford headliner. The windshield has to come out; we've seen where people have tried to do the headliner without removal and it ain't pretty. Worse are the cars that have a glue in windshield, it is nearly impossible to remove the glass without breaking it.

This is an excellent video,...………...…. to demonstrate that sometimes it ain't worth the effort, unless you have a bitchin' car like a T-bolt of course. If bare, of course you have to do it, but not to replace a mildly damaged one. Need to do this with All glass out, so mostly done early on serious restos, not a DIY nicety on an existing driver. I have a few rips at the back end of my 67 Cyclone's HL near package tray, but mostly ok and tight elsewhere, so I'm not taking glass out to do properly. So if you have a few mouse chew holes or ones made by some dude's GF's high heels or sharp toenails, ripping it slightly over the back seat, from a pretty common "nice episode" back in the good 'ol days of the 60's, best to live with those, thereby adding a piece of "interesting conversation" to your ride!! ;D
